Thousands Unite in Atlanta for the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project 2026

In a remarkable display of community spirit, Atlanta hosts its first Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project since 1988 this week. Kicking off on May 4, 2026, a crowd of over a thousand volunteers, together with partners and future homeowners, join forces to build 24 homes in the historic Sylvan Hills neighborhood. This monumental endeavor aligns with Habitat for Humanity's 50th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in the organization's journey.

The construction effort is centered at Langston Park, which is part of a modern 68-unit master-planned community that emphasizes sustainability and accessibility. With close proximity to public transport and urban green spaces, Langston Park aims to be more than just a housing project; it’s a community designed for thriving families.

Former President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter have long been advocates for affordable housing. Their involvement with Habitat for Humanity began in 1984, when they participated in the very first 'blitz build'. Grasping the urgent need for stable and affordable housing, the Carters recognized that a secure home forms the basis for family success.

Since its inception, Habitat for Humanity has made significant strides towards creating a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to call home. Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International, stated, "As we commemorate the 40th Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, we honor their extraordinary legacy and celebrate the collective efforts of diverse individuals united by a common cause."

This year, the project is not only about building homes but also about fostering a community ethos where everyone has the chance to succeed. The Carters and Habitat for Humanity have inspired more than 109,000 volunteers globally, leading to the construction or improvement of over 4,472 homes across 14 countries.

Support for this year's project comes from various sponsors, with the Diamond partner being The Home Depot Foundation, along with Platinum sponsors such as Bank of America, Delta Air Lines, and Wells Fargo. Together, they are ensuring the success of this meaningful initiative.

Atlanta Habitat for Humanity is at the forefront of transforming lives in their local communities by integrating neighborhood revitalization and affordable housing solutions. They impact approximately 6,000 families annually in over 100 neighborhoods. Their efforts are centered on constructing energy-efficient homes and providing assistance to first-time home buyers through zero-interest mortgages.

As the event unfolds, Habitat for Humanity invites everyone to engage with their mission and encourages potential volunteers and donors to contribute towards a cause that is about more than just building homes—it’s about building hopes, dreams, and futures for families everywhere.
