The Center for Discovery's Evening of Discovery Gala
On April 29, 2025, the prestigious
Evening of Discovery Gala will take place in New York City, celebrating the remarkable contributions of
Nelly Bly Arougheti. As a family member and board member of The Center for Discovery (TCFD), Nelly has played a crucial role in advancing the organization's mission over the years. The gala, held at the iconic
Cipriani 42nd Street, is TCFD's premier fundraising event, designed to support transformative programs that benefit children and adults with complex disabilities and medical frailties.
A Night of Purpose
The Evening of Discovery Gala is more than just a celebration; it is a vital fundraiser for initiatives like the
Animal Assisted Intervention and
Education program, the
Integrated Arts program focusing on recreation and music therapy, and TCFD's unique
Food Is Medicine® model. The funds raised will also enhance key facilities and provide invaluable benefits for The Center's workforce of 1,700 employees, including on-site daycare and tuition reimbursement programs.
TCFD, recognized internationally for its innovative care models, serves nearly 1,200 individuals each year dealing with disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The new
Children's Specialty Hospital, launched in December 2024, significantly extends their reach, providing comprehensive support for young people facing serious challenges.
Honoring Nelly Bly Arougheti
Nelly Bly Arougheti's commitment to The Center is truly inspiring. She is not only a caregiver and advocate, but she also co-chairs the Board Development and Endowment Committee at TCFD. Furthermore, she has played significant roles in various organizations, including Women's Health Access Matters and Dwight-Englewood School. In collaboration with author Lois Kellerman, she co-published a book on maintaining healthy relationships, showcasing her multifaceted talents.
Nelly has been instrumental in multiple initiatives within TCFD, contributing to projects like the
Treehouse Project and the
Discovery Dreams Play Park. Her efforts, alongside her husband Michael Arougheti, have significantly enhanced The Center’s image, positioning it as a leader in compassionate care.
During the gala, Nelly is expected to share her experiences and the profound influence that The Center has had on her family. She will also pay tribute to her late mother,
Jimmie Ritchie, and her brother's long-time caregiver,
Elaine Corrington, who were deeply woven into the fabric of the organization.
A Star-Studded Evening
Adding to the excitement of the evening, renowned journalist
Gayle King will host the event, while celebrated actress
Susie Essman is set to make special appearances. The gala promises an evening of cocktails, a formal dinner, entertainment, and a silent auction, all underlined by the profound mission of The Center.
Last year's gala generated over $2 million, and this year, the aim is to exceed that benchmark as attendees from various sectors of business and healthcare come together to show their support.
The Center for Discovery continues to be a pioneer in redefining care for vulnerable populations. Founded on the principle of focusing on individual potential rather than disabilities, TCFD is committed to providing innovative opportunities for personal growth and care.
