Aignostics Introduces HETA Clinical: AI Products Revolutionizing Pathology Workflows

Aignostics has officially launched HETA Clinical, its innovative range of AI products designed to transform pathology workflows and enhance the accuracy of molecular testing results. This launch represents a significant advancement in the approach to cancer diagnostics, offering solutions that streamline processes from specimen receiving to molecular testing and assessment.

The HETA Clinical suite comprises four initial products: HETA Quality Control, HETA Tumor Detection, HETA Mitoses, and HETA Tumor Cellularity. Together, these tools facilitate the assessment of slide quality, the identification of tumor presence, mitosis counting, and the quantification of tumor cellularity based on whole slide images stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin (HE).

  • - HETA Quality Control: This product evaluates the quality of slides pre-analysis, identifying a range of issues that could affect the reliability of subsequent testing.
  • - HETA Tumor Detection: It annotates tumor regions alongside flagging cases that may contain tumors during the digitization process, prioritizing them for review and requesting additional staining as needed.
  • - HETA Mitoses: This component counts mitotic figures, providing a reproducible metric essential in various pathology specialties.
  • - HETA Tumor Cellularity: This measures the presence of tumor cells, identifying regions with sufficient tumor content for molecular testing.

Traditionally, these assessments would rely heavily on visual inspection, a process that varies significantly across different pathologists and can be incredibly time-consuming. Current estimates suggest that between 10% to 20% of molecular tests falter due to inadequate tumor tissue in the samples, leading to unnecessary biopsies and delays in diagnosis. HETA Clinical addresses these challenges by helping labs prioritize their cases and ensuring enough tumor tissue exists before proceeding with molecular tests.

Dr. Rosemarie Krupar, Vice President of Pathology at Aignostics, emphasized, "HETA Clinical enables laboratories to navigate through their workflows more efficiently. Measures such as tumor burden and mitotic count are pivotal across various pathology specialties, much of which dictates the subsequent tasks following slide evaluation. AI provides consistency at scale in quantifying cells, allowing pathologists to dedicate their expertise to more complex facets of their work."

The HETA Clinical products utilize the HETA platform, previously known as Atlas HE-TME, which is Aignostics’ cornerstone for spatial tissue analysis across multiple cancer types. A recent study indicated that HETA's cell classification either matched or surpassed that of trained pathology specialists, making it a valuable tool not only for common cancer types but also for a diverse range of subspecialties in pathology.

Adding to its offerings, Aignostics also announced early access to PathoSearch, a visual search engine tailored for pathology cases. Additional HETA Clinical products are set to be introduced in the future and will be integrated with imaging management systems, including Techcyte Fusion® AP. Pathologists utilizing Fusion can reach out to their contacts at Techcyte for demonstrations.

To utilize the advanced capabilities of HETA Clinical, stakeholders can request a demonstration through the official website. Note that HETA Clinical is designated for research purposes only and should not be employed in diagnostic procedures.
