Fresenius Finalizes Acquisition of mAbxience to Enhance Biosimilars Portfolio Expansion

Fresenius Completes Acquisition of mAbxience: A New Era for Biosimilars

Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA has successfully acquired the remaining 45% stake in mAbxience from Insud Pharma, marking a significant step in its mission to strengthen its biopharmaceutical platform. This acquisition builds upon the partnership formed in 2022, which has already yielded notable advancements in development, manufacturing, and technology transfer. With this new phase, Fresenius aims to enhance its capabilities in delivering high-quality biosimilars to patients worldwide.

Strengthening Biopharmaceutical Presence

In August 2022, Fresenius gained a majority stake of 55% in mAbxience, initiating a collaborative journey focused on expanding manufacturing capabilities and regulatory compliance. The acquisition completed this strategic consolidation, integrating mAbxience's biosimilars platform directly into Fresenius Kabi's Biopharma division. This integration covers the entire spectrum from development and manufacturing to commercialization, ensuring a seamless and high-quality supply chain.

CEO of Fresenius, Michael Sen, emphasized the significance of the acquisition, stating, "Completing the acquisition of mAbxience marks the next milestone in building a leading, vertically integrated biopharma business at scale." He highlighted the evolving market opportunities and the anticipated benefits for patients. By achieving full ownership, Fresenius gains complete authority over costs, production capacity, and launch schedules, thereby securing a strong position as key biologics transition off patent.

Commitment to Quality and Innovation

Under its new structure, Fresenius aims to enhance both the quality and resilience of the supply of biosimilars, ensuring broader access for patients to these crucial medications. Historically, mAbxience has positioned itself as a driver of innovation in the sector. CEO Jurgen van Broeck affirmed the company's dedication to remaining customer-focused while fostering long-term growth and quality standards.

He expressed gratitude to Insud Pharma for its support throughout the years, stating, "The success of mAbxience today is built on the vision, dedication, and hard work of many people. Full ownership is the natural next step and creates an even stronger platform for innovation and growth."

Moving forward, mAbxience intends to maintain its commitment to existing customers while upholding the highest standards of quality and reliable supply. The leadership will continue under Jurgen Van Broeck, who will now report to Dr. Sang-Jin Pak, the President of Biopharma at Fresenius.

Looking Ahead

As the market landscape continues to shift with a wave of biologics nearing the end of exclusivity periods, this acquisition positions Fresenius and mAbxience to capitalize on emerging opportunities. By enhancing their portfolio of biosimilars, they aim to provide patients with dependable and accessible options in the biopharmaceutical space. The confluence of Fresenius's financial strength and mAbxience's innovative capabilities sets the stage for a transformative period in the development and delivery of these critical therapies.

In summary, the full acquisition of mAbxience by Fresenius not only reinforces their operational framework but also promises a future where high-quality biosimilars are more accessible than ever, improving patient outcomes while driving industry growth.
