Connecticut Innovations Achieves Unprecedented $51.4 Million in Venture Capital in Q1 FY27
Connecticut Innovations (CI), the state's strategic venture capital arm, has recently marked an incredible milestone by securing a record-breaking
$51.4 million in venture proceeds during the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2027. This achievement not only highlights CI's robust role in the funding landscape but also underscores its commitment to fostering innovation within Connecticut.
According to Matt Storeygard, the senior managing director of investments at CI, this impressive quarter has been significantly driven by the
initial public offering of one of its portfolio companies,
Veradermics. Storeygard emphasizes that such successful exits from their portfolio yield far-reaching benefits, extending well beyond the immediate financial achievements. They create enduring value for the state, allowing Connecticut Innovations to reinvest in the ecosystem of startups which ultimately propels job creation and economic growth in the region.
In the quarter that concluded on
September 30, 2026, CI not only achieved this record revenue but also actively invested about
$15.6 million into
25 different companies and venture funds. Impressively, their investments facilitated an additional
$76.7 million in outside capital within the same time frame, showcasing CI's capability in leveraging resources to maximize investment impact.
Peter Longo, another senior managing director at CI, notes that the organization is currently witnessing a
strong pipeline of innovative companies emerging across various sectors, particularly concentrating on climate technology, artificial intelligence, and broader technological advancements. CI's diverse investments during this quarter reflect its strategic focus on nurturing emerging solutions that are positioned to become successful and growing enterprises in their own right.
Notably, during this quarter, CI portfolio investments included approximately
$5.7 million directed specifically towards climate tech companies, alongside
$4.5 million invested in technology companies. The remaining investments spanned critical sectors such as healthcare and consumer products, along with contributions to venture funds aimed at fostering future innovations.
In addition to its financial contributions, Connecticut Innovations has actively supported talent acquisition for its portfolio companies. Their dedicated talent team succeeded in facilitating the hiring of
89 professionals during this quarter alone. Since the initiation of their talent program in
May 2022, CI has successfully placed over
800 professionals, significantly aiding the growth of its partner companies.
Bo Bradstreet, the director of talent acquisition, emphasizes the importance of winning the talent war in today’s competitive environment, stressing that securing the right hires at critical junctures can dramatically influence a company’s trajectory. CI remains devoted to working closely with founders to identify essential roles, enabling them to concentrate on scaling their operations in Connecticut.
Connecticut Innovations continues to stand as the leading source of financing and support for Connecticut's innovative companies. Through equity and debt investments, strategic guidance, and valuable connections, CI is steadfast in its mission to cultivate promising businesses and nurture the next generation of entrepreneurial success stories.
