GLN International Launches Nationwide QR Payment Service in Vietnam
In a landmark initiative for financial technology in Southeast Asia, GLN International has introduced a nationwide QR payment service in Vietnam, in collaboration with NAPAS. This strategic integration provides Vietnamese citizens and travelers with an easy and efficient way to conduct transactions using QR codes, enhancing their financial interaction within the country.
Launch Ceremony
The official launch took place on April 23, 2026, in Vietnam, attended by key representatives from various financial institutions including the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), NAPAS, BIDV, and Hana Bank. This event marked a significant milestone in Vietnam’s payment infrastructure, as it combines cutting-edge technology with local banking frameworks.
National QR Payment Ecosystem
The newly established service connects GLN International directly to Vietnam's national QR payment network, which is grounded in the VietQR Global ecosystem operated by NAPAS. This innovative system links local banks and merchants throughout the country, allowing users to make payments through their bank or financial apps without the need for currency conversion.
According to GLN International, this setup is designed with travelers in mind. Users can leverage their already familiar apps, such as Toss, PurpleGLN, Hana OneQ, Hana Money, and Hana Card to make payments without having to worry about exchange rates. This service is particularly valuable in major tourist destinations including Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, and Ho Chi Minh City.
Facilitating Cross-Border Transactions
Seok Lee, CEO of GLN, emphasized the importance of this initiative by stating, "This launch is a critical step in connecting Korea and Vietnam through a unified QR payment infrastructure. By integrating with Vietnam’s national QR network, we provide travelers from Korea with a hassle-free payment experience using apps they already know, all while eliminating currency exchange issues."
The QR payment service also aims to expand into everyday retail encounters, enhancing convenience for local users. Plans are in motion for the initiative to be available on other popular platforms like Naver Pay and the KB Banking App, catering not just to tourists but also to residents.
A Leader in Cross-Border Payments
GLN International, a subsidiary of Hana Bank and part of Hana Financial Group, has established itself as a leader in providing QR payment and cash withdrawal services across 14 Asian countries, including notable markets such as China, Thailand, and Japan. With over 200 million QR payment points available globally, GLN is reshaping the landscape for payments and financial transactions, particularly in Asia.
The evolving partnership with international platforms like Moreta Pay in North America, DeCard App in Singapore, and Taishin Bank in Taiwan further solidifies GLN's position in the cross-border payment infrastructure sector.
Conclusion
As GLN International and NAPAS enhance the Vietnamese payment framework, users can anticipate streamlined, secure transactions that heighten their overall financial experience. This pioneering QR payment service is set not only to revolutionize how transactions occur in Vietnam but also to strengthen cross-border financial connectivity in the region.
The future of QR payments looks promising, and with initiatives like these, consumers and businesses alike stand to benefit significantly from advancements in digital payment technology.
