Ishigaki Corporation Secures Major Pump Facility Contract for Flood Prevention

Ishigaki Corporation Wins Significant Contract for Flood Control

Ishigaki Corporation, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has recently been awarded a significant contract for the pump facility construction at the Zao Pump Station in Fukuyama City. This contract, valued at approximately 3.08 billion yen, marks a crucial step in flood prevention initiatives aimed at enhancing public safety in the region.

The project comes in response to the serious flooding issues that the area faced, particularly during the 2018 Western Japan Heavy Rainfall event, which affected around 250 hectares and caused damage to numerous homes. The new facility aims to address these concerns by significantly improving drainage capacity and ensuring a swift response to potential flood situations.

Project Overview

The details of the infrastructure project are as follows:
  • - Construction Name: Fukuyama Zao Pump Station Pump Facility Construction
  • - Scope of Work: Installation of new pump facilities, including main pump systems along with associated building and mechanical equipment.
  • - Location: Myojin-cho, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture
  • - Contractor: Ishigaki Corporation
  • - Contract Amount: 3,080,000,000 yen (excluding tax)
  • - Contract Date: December 2025
  • - Construction Period: December 2025 to March 2028

Pump Technology

The pumping equipment for this project will include vertical axial flow pumps, which are known for their capacity to handle high flow rates of up to approximately 1,000 cubic meters per minute, equivalent to about three 25-meter swimming pools. Ishigaki's vertical axial flow pumps are designed for various applications, including stormwater drainage, river discharge, and industrial lifting and draining. Notably, the pump's impeller is located at the bottom of the unit, which allows for rapid startup even in flooded conditions. Furthermore, these pumps excel in depth applications due to their high total dynamic head and reliability against foreign object passage, making them particularly suitable for demanding environments.
