Okayama University Strengthens International Network to Promote Study in Japan in Southeast Asia

Okayama University Enhances Overseas Network for Study in Japan

Okayama University, located in the heart of Okayama City and led by President Yasuyuki Nasu, is ramping up its effort to promote Japanese studies abroad, particularly in Southeast Asia. As part of the Ministry of Education’s initiative to strengthen overseas networks, the university will host the "Study in Japan Fair 2025 for Myanmar" from August 29 to 30, 2025. This event is designed for Myanmar nationals who wish to study in Japan, as well as educators and advisors guiding their ambitions.

The fair will offer a specialized website, online seminars, and consultation sessions, enticing 2015 participants to gain insights from 20 participating institutions. This initiative supports students as they navigate the pathway to study and find employment in Japan, marking the 10th iteration of this ongoing series. It is jointly organized by the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar, the Myanmar alumni association (MAJA), and other collaborative partners like JICA’s Myanmar Japan Human Resource Development Center.

The recent online seminar attracted 289 attendees eager to learn more about studying in Japan. Notable figures such as Deputy Ambassador Shogo Yoshitake from the Japanese Embassy, MAJA President Myo Khin, and Okayama University's Vice President Takayoshi Suzuki shared motivational messages to kick off the event. Attendees also had the opportunity to hear from fourteen institutions, including Okayama University, which highlighted essential information about studying in Japan and available scholarships.

Key components of the fair include group consultation sessions where participants can engage with faculty and current international students. An impressive 824 attendees seized the chance to ask questions and engage in discussions about their study prospects. During Okayama University’s session, alumni now working as lecturers shared their experiences, while two current Myanmar students offered personal insights into their academic lives, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas.

Looking ahead, Okayama University is committed to continuously providing information and support through fairs and seminars aimed at aspiring Myanmar students. The university aims to double the number of students from ASEAN countries, including Myanmar, over the next five years, facilitating better access to education and opportunities in Japan. With operational offices in cities like Yangon, Mandalay, Bangkok, and others across Southeast Asia, this initiative positions Okayama University as a pivotal player in attracting high-caliber students.

With an already established reputation as a core research university, Okayama University is dedicated to enhancing its engagement with the ASEAN nations. The ongoing initiatives, which include this annual fair, are aimed at promoting greater understanding and collaboration.
