Huawei Hosts European Innovation Day 2024, Fostering Cross-Border Collaboration for Growth

On November 26, 2024, Huawei proudly hosted the European Innovation Day in Paris, bringing together key players from the technology landscape including industry leaders, business representatives, and innovation experts. This year's theme, 'Unlocking European Innovation Potential', set the stage for vibrant discussions around cross-border and cross-sector collaboration in order to leverage Europe’s digital transformation.

During the event, Jesus Contreras, COO of EIT Digital, highlighted the essence of innovation: it thrives on cooperation rather than on individual efforts. He noted that digital innovations gain momentum when international partners and clients combine diverse perspectives, fueling energy and dynamism in collaborative endeavors.

Italian Regional Minister Nicola Caputo and member of the European Committee of the Regions, emphasized the challenges Europe faces in terms of digital transformation. He pointed out issues such as the lack of awareness regarding digitalization, slow adoption of commercial technologies, and uneven 5G network coverage. Caputo called upon governments to enhance cross-border collaboration to fortify Europe’s competitiveness in the digital economy.

Ximo Puig, Spain's permanent representative to the OECD, posited that innovation would become a framework for governments, businesses, and society to collectively foster long-term development and pursue a fully connected world. Laurent Lafforgue, a distinguished mathematician from Huawei’s French branch, underlined the importance of solid fundamental theories, stating that robust theoretical research is crucial for achieving sustainable and long-term advancement in technology.

Yu Liang, Vice President of Huawei Cloud's international ecosystem, stressed that innovation is a long-term process. He expressed Huawei’s commitment to supporting open collaboration that creates both societal and commercial value. Consequently, he announced a partnership between Huawei and Station F to launch an incubation program focused on sustainability, which aims to support ten startups in sectors such as retail, automotive, and industrial manufacturing. This initiative intends to enable these startups to achieve dynamic growth in a seven-month incubation period.

The forum, 'Digitization Progress for Emerging Innovators in Europe', co-organized by Euronews and Huawei, underscored the necessity of cross-sector collaboration and open ecosystems. Key speakers like Horst Heitz from SME Connect and Ana Paula Nishio de Sousa from UNIDO emphasized the importance of open data exchange platforms and collaborative ecosystems to cultivate a more inclusive and agile innovation environment.

Zhuxiaoming, Vice President of Huawei Cloud Global Industry Development, declared that Huawei Cloud will continue its investments in Europe by offering stable and reliable cloud infrastructure, collaborating with government agencies and higher education institutions to develop digital talents, and supporting startups to scale operations across various regions. He noted that the pace of Europe’s digital transformation is lagging behind the targets outlined in the European Digital Decade 2030 plan, especially in areas such as data and artificial intelligence.

Berta Herrero, Huawei’s Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Europe, led a panel discussion on empowering women innovators. Participants like Rebeca de Sancho Mayoral of the EU and Egle Ciuoderiene, founder of Duevo, shared insights on EU funding and policy initiatives aimed at supporting female entrepreneurs, calling for greater representation of women in the technological innovation ecosystem to promote an inclusive and diverse environment.

Concluding the conference, Tony Yong Jin, Huawei’s Business Environment Director for Europe, urged all stakeholders to take decisive actions to bolster digital innovations and establish a more interconnected, inclusive, and sustainable Europe. He called, 'Today, I urge all of us to embrace digital innovation—not just for the expectations tied to it but for the profound impact it has on every individual, family, and community.'

Huawei’s European Innovation Day served as a pivotal moment, combining varied perspectives from the technology sector to chart a pathway toward a resilient and innovative future for Europe.
