2026 International Exchange on Women and Children's Health

The picturesque city of Boao in Hainan Province, China, played host to the 2026 International Exchange on Women and Children's Health from October 23-26. This significant gathering attracted over 170 representatives from various sectors, including government health departments, international organizations, and health experts from Asia and Africa. The event was titled "Digital Intelligence Empowering Women and Children's Health -- Sharing a Healthier Future," focusing on enhancing cooperation and sharing knowledge across borders.

During the four-day event, participants engaged in fruitful discussions aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation and improving health standards among women and children. The conference particularly emphasized the importance of collaboration between ASEAN countries and African nations to further the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

Gao Xinpu, deputy director of the Hainan Provincial Health Commission, highlighted Hainan's strategic role within its free trade port, aimed at facilitating global partnerships in women and children's health. This illustrates a broader intent to create a more integrated approach to health challenges, reflective of diverse, regional expertise.

Xu Zongyu, director of the National Center for Women and Children's Health under China's National Health Commission, underscored the relationship between women's and children's health as a key indicator of societal advancement. He urged increased cooperation and knowledge sharing through open platforms — enabling resource integration to benefit the Global South.

In tandem with these discussions, Nadia Rasheed, UN Population Fund representative to China, stressed the need for continuous investment in health services that directly influence maternal and child health outcomes. Such initiatives seek to ensure that all mothers and children receive adequate care throughout their health journeys.

Perhaps one of the most notable mentions came from Li Nan, a UNICEF expert specializing in women's and children's health. She pointed out China's replicable practices in early newborn care, suggesting that these could inspire actionable strategies in other countries facing similar challenges.

As part of its commitment to international cooperation, China announced plans for joint training programs with ASEAN and African countries to advance maternal and child health projects. This initiative reflects a genuinely collaborative effort to share effective practices and technologies that could transform how various countries handle health initiatives.

An exhibition showcasing innovative technologies and products aimed at enhancing maternal and child health also took place during the event, providing a dynamic platform for learning and dialogue among health professionals.

The 2026 International Exchange on Women and Children's Health marked a pivotal moment for international cooperation in improving health systems across regions. By embracing digital intelligence and collaborative efforts, the health of women and children can become a shared priority, leading to a healthier future for all.

In conclusion, the Boao conference not only served as a significant milestone for health advocates but also highlighted the importance of collaborative global initiatives that align with developmental goals. As nations come together to share knowledge and resources, the future of women's and children's health looks promising.
