Clean Energy Connect Partners with Chiba University for Virtual PPA Services

Clean Energy Connect and Chiba University Join Forces for Carbon Neutrality

On May 30, 2025, Clean Energy Connect, a company specializing in decarbonization solutions, announced its recent agreement with Chiba University to implement a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) service. This innovative partnership aims to support the university's carbon neutrality initiatives by providing green electricity and environmental value derived from agricultural solar energy facilities located around Chiba City.

The Virtual PPA represents a notable move within Japan's academic sector as it marks the first instance where a national university is purchasing solely the environmental value of renewable energy through this type of agreement. Clean Energy Connect, under the leadership of CEO Teppei Uchida, aims to aid Chiba University’s pursuit of 100% renewable energy consumption by the year 2040, aligning with the RE100 initiative.

Project Overview

This collaboration will facilitate the purchase of solar-generated electricity from a solar power installation, designed by Chiba Eco Energy and installed by TN Cross, located at a rice paddy in Chiba. Clean Energy Connect will acquire the produced electricity, separating the power from its associated environmental benefits. The company will then provide these environmental values to Chiba University via the Virtual PPA service.

With this partnership, Clean Energy Connect affirms its commitment to not only empower large corporations such as Amazon, Dai-ichi Life, and Google to meet their decarbonization goals and RE100 targets but also to extend its innovative green power solutions to educational institutions.

Green Power Solutions

Clean Energy Connect delivers a comprehensive suite of services that range from planning optimal green energy implementations to post-implementation support and outcome verification. The aim is to offer a fast, flexible, and one-stop service for businesses aiming for a greener future. Currently, the company is actively supporting the decarbonization efforts of major corporations such as NTT Group and Fujifilm by helping them achieve their sustainable energy goals.

As Clean Energy Connect looks toward the future, it aims to further enhance renewable energy utilization by integrating solar power with storage systems, wind power, and Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS). This holistic approach will facilitate a continuous improvement in renewable energy consumption and support clients in meeting their carbon neutrality and RE100 objectives efficiently.

Conclusion

Through this partnership with Chiba University, Clean Energy Connect is taking a significant step in the battle against climate change by providing effective and practical green energy solutions. Their commitment is not only to facilitate business goals but also to transform the educational landscape’s approach to sustainability. As the urgency of climate challenges escalates, initiatives like these highlight the importance of collaboration between private and public sectors to create a sustainable future for all.
