Stephen C. Dwyer Takes Leadership as CEO of the American Staffing Association
Today marks a significant transition for the American Staffing Association (ASA) as Stephen C. Dwyer has assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer. This appointment is noteworthy as Dwyer becomes the fifth individual to lead the organization since its inception. Previously serving as President and Chief Legal and Operating Officer, Dwyer brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new position.
Dwyer has been a vital part of ASA for numerous years, contributing to its success as a prominent advocate for the staffing industry. His deep understanding of the hurdles and opportunities facing staffing agencies today positions him as an ideal leader for this pivotal moment in the association's evolution. In his inaugural address as CEO, Dwyer expressed gratitude to the ASA Board of Directors and Richard Wahlquist, the former CEO who retired at the end of 2025.
“It is my great honor to step into the role of chief executive officer of the American Staffing Association, and I thank the ASA board of directors and Richard for placing their trust in me to lead this amazing organization,” Dwyer stated.
Dwyer emphasizes that ASA's mission moving forward will be to make its membership indispensable for staffing agencies by leveraging data-driven insights, strong advocacy, and community engagement. His vision reflects a commitment to not only uphold the standards of the organization but also to drive growth opportunities within the staffing industry, which continues to face a dynamic landscape.
Tom Gimbel, the chair of the ASA board of directors, praised Dwyer, highlighting his reputation as a staunch advocate for the staffing sector. “Stephen is a fierce advocate for the staffing industry who understands the challenges and opportunities our members are facing. He is the right leader at the right time and is a forward-thinking and strategic executive,” Gimbel remarked, expressing confidence in Dwyer’s leadership.
Dwyer's educational background further supports his leadership capabilities. He holds an undergraduate degree from Bucknell University and a Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School. This academic foundation, combined with his extensive experience at ASA, equips him with the legal and operational expertise required to navigate the complexities of the staffing industry.
As he steps into his new position, Dwyer is also playing a significant role internationally. He has been named the North American representative to the World Employment Confederation, indicating his influence is not limited to ASA alone but extends to global discussions surrounding employment and staffing practices.
The American Staffing Association itself plays a crucial role in advancing the interests of the staffing, recruiting, and workforce solutions industry in the U.S. With its focus on advocacy, research, education, and maintaining high standards of ethical practices, ASA aims to accelerate the growth of its members in the face of changing economic conditions.
As Dwyer begins his tenure, members of the ASA and industry stakeholders are eager to see how his leadership will shape the association's future, especially in fostering collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth within the staffing domain. His expertise is expected to guide the organization towards new opportunities and achievements in the coming years.
