Transforming Classrooms: An Online Event on Curriculum and Learning Environment Design

Transforming Classrooms: An Online Event

On July 1, 2025, NIJIN Educational Lab will host an enlightening online event featuring Takahisa Miyake, Vice Principal of Seto SOLAN Academy in Aichi Prefecture. The event, titled "The Challenge of Seto SOLAN Academy - Curriculum Structure and Learning Environment Design," invites educators and interested participants to explore innovative practices in education.

Background of the Event

Since the revision of national educational guidelines, there has been a growing focus on "exploratory learning" across schools in Japan. However, many educators express concerns that such learning often remains superficial or that classroom environments have not evolved to improve educational quality. At Seto SOLAN Academy, innovative approaches have been adopted to ensure that the environment itself supports children's learning. By rethinking the classroom layout, the selection of tools, and the approaches teachers adopt, SOLAN Academy aims to cultivate independent and autonomous learners.

Miyake's session will provide a rare opportunity to learn directly about SOLAN Academy's design philosophy and its practical examples from their implementation. With years of experience in both practical applications and teacher training, Miyake will share insights on how to create a daily culture of exploration in classrooms.
