The Launch of the Limited Edition Brad Paisley 1967 'Lost Paisley' Telecaster Guitar

Unveiling the Limited Edition Brad Paisley 1967 'Lost Paisley' Telecaster

On May 9, 2025, Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) will commence orders for the Limited Edition Brad Paisley 1967 'Lost Paisley' Telecaster guitar. This instrument, born from a collaboration with country music star Brad Paisley, is an homage to the iconic Paisley Red finish that first debuted in 1968.

The 'Lost Paisley' Telecaster features a vintage style that beautifully captures the spirit of one of Fender's most beloved designs. Limited to just 67 units crafted at the Fender Custom Shop in Corona, California, this guitar will be available at Fender Flagship Tokyo and authorized Fender Custom Shop dealers in Japan. Additionally, Brad Paisley himself worked closely with Fender's Nashville research and development team to create 19 unique guitars that will be sold exclusively through his official channels.

Brad reflects on the inspiration behind the guitar, sharing, "I’ve been tied to the 'Paisley' pattern since my birth. I can’t believe my name is associated with one of the coolest finishes in Fender history. This guitar represents what that color would be if it had kept living on, and I truly believe it’s the best guitar I’ve ever had on my hands."

The story of this Telecaster began when Brad acquired an almost unused Blue Paisley foil paper believed to be from the 1960s. Inspired, he teamed up with friends Zach Childs and Joe Glaser to not only repaint his own 1967 Telecaster but also to create a faithful reproduction of the vintage paisley pattern foil. Their meticulous craftsmanship resulted in a beautifully restored Telecaster, alongside a stunning recreation of the original paisley foil paper.

Released in 1968, the Paisley Red and Blue Flower finishes were inspired by the 'Summer of Love' movement. These instruments were wrapped in printed foil paper and finished with a metallic burst, highlighting the vibrant colors of the intricate patterns. However, due to factors like the paper’s thickness and weak adhesives, many guitars suffered from chipping and peeling, ultimately leading to their discontinuation by late 1969, causing them to fade into obscurity.

Over the decades, the Paisley Telecaster has developed a dedicated fan base, with collectors and guitarists drawn to their unique appearance and scarce history. Brad Paisley, sharing the name with this iconic design, became enamored with these classic models. The collaboration with the Fender Custom Shop embodies his vision of the 'Lost Telecaster,' blending vintage roots with modern craftsmanship and accuracy.

Chase Paul, Director of Product Development at Fender Custom Shop, commented, "Brad Paisley's deep understanding of Fender's history and attention to detail played a significant role in bringing the 'Lost Paisley' Telecaster to life. Every facet of the Limited Edition Brad Paisley 1967 'Lost Paisley' Telecaster has been created with purpose, from the rediscovery of the original Blue Paisley foil paper to custom hardware and pickups. This is not just another artist signature model; it is a glimpse into what could have been if it had been produced back in the day—a truly 'lost piece' in the evolution of the Fender Telecaster."

The Limited Edition Brad Paisley 1967 'Lost Paisley' Telecaster is a unique model that combines nostalgia with precise craftsmanship, making it an excellent instrument for the modern player. The lightweight body, crafted from a mix of alder, paulownia, and spruce, offers exceptional resonance and comfort. Finished with an eye-catching Blue Paisley Relic® finish and colorful metallic burst, this guitar integrates psychedelic origins while encapsulating contemporary elements. Its custom 60s oval 'C' shape maple neck and round laminated maple fingerboard provide smooth and familiar playability.

The hand-wound Seymour Duncan Custom Lost Paisley pickups deliver warm, clear, and balanced tones, while the Glaser 'G' Bender system allows for smooth pedal steel-like bending, enhancing the expressive capabilities of performance. Designed in the specifications of the late 1960s, the Telecaster comes with a vintage-style case, a Fender strap replicating the specifications of that era, and a certificate of authenticity, making it a dream for collectors while being stage-ready.

Ben Blanc-Dumont, Director of Artist Marketing at Fender’s Nashville office, expressed, "This project embodies Brad's long-standing relationship with Fender and our shared passion for the Telecaster and its legacy. The 'Lost Paisley' Telecaster transcends being just a signature guitar; it pays tribute to the country music community that shaped Brad's sound and continues to inspire artists worldwide. We are honored to celebrate a page of Fender's hidden history with this instrument while also honoring the players and creators who carry on this legacy every day."
