Mothers Against Drunk Driving Reveals New Brand for Fundraising Event: Move With MADD

MADD Unveils New Identity for Annual Fundraiser: Move With MADD

Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) has made a significant change to its long-standing community event fundraiser, previously known as ‘Walk Like MADD’. With a fresh name, Move With MADD, the organization is determined to enhance inclusivity and accessibility while promoting its mission to eliminate impaired driving.

This rebranding marks a pivotal shift in how MADD engages with communities nationwide. The change comes as a reflection of the organization's commitment to involve more individuals, regardless of their physical abilities. By expanding the range of activities included in the event, such as cycling races, fishing tournaments, and golf outings, MADD aims to inspire diverse participation and encourage communities to unite against impaired driving.

Why the Change?

Every 85 seconds in the United States, someone is either killed or injured in a crash caused by impaired driving. MADD sees this alarming statistic as a catalyst for change, motivating them to evolve their annual fundraiser into an event capable of inspiring more individuals to join the fight against this preventable crime. Shift from Walk Like MADD to Move With MADD demonstrates MADD's dedication to making the initiative accessible to everyone.

Stacey D. Stewart, MADD's CEO, stated, “Our mission remains steadfast, and we are proud of the impact our walks and other events have made over the years to raise awareness and funds to help end impaired driving for good. By evolving the event, we are not only honoring the legacy of 'Walk Like MADD' but also enhancing it to reach even more people and create a greater impact.”

What Will Move With MADD Involve?

Move With MADD encompasses a variety of outdoor activities that encourage people of all ages and physical abilities to participate. This year's fundraising efforts will include:
  • - 5K Walks and Races: For casual walkers or competitive racers, a 5K event encourages friendly competition.
  • - Cycling Races: Biking enthusiasts can partake in competitive rides to boost awareness.
  • - Fun Runs: These shorter, family-friendly races aim to get everyone moving.
  • - Fishing Tournaments: Community members can enjoy nature while advocating against impaired driving.
  • - Golf Tournaments: Friendly competitions on the greens provide another way to champion MADD's cause.

Through these activities, participants are provided with various ways to get involved, fostering community spirit and collective action.

Supporting Victims and Survivors

All proceeds from the Move With MADD events directly go to support MADD's free 24/7 victim services. This includes crucial emotional support, guidance through both the criminal and civil justice systems, and assistance with victim impact statements. Further investments from these fundraisers also support advocacy efforts for stricter laws around drunk driving and underage drinking.

MADD aims to broaden its impact, having united over 13,000 walkers and more than 1,200 volunteers across 87 communities in the prior year’s Walk Like MADD event.
