Bahrain's Milestone in Solar Energy

Bahrain is making waves in the renewable energy sector by announcing the largest rooftop solar power plant in the world. This groundbreaking project, developed by Foulath Holding in collaboration with Yellow Door Energy, is set to have a peak capacity of 50 megawatts (MWp) and will employ 77,000 solar panels installed on a new warehouse spanning 262,000 square meters.

The announcement was made during the Gateway Gulf Investment Forum, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bahrain Bay, attended by global investors, business leaders, and policymakers from around the world. Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Bahrain's Minister of Sustainable Development, stated that this project positions Bahrain at the forefront of global sustainable innovation, further solidifying its role as a regional leader in clean energy.

Foulath Holding, which has heavily invested in sustainability projects, has allocated approximately $250 million towards various initiatives. Meshary Al-Judaimi, President of Foulath Holding, expressed that this solar power project reflects their commitment to responsible operations and environmental stewardship, ensuring that industrial development goes hand in hand with environmental care.

The solar power plant is expected to consist not only of rooftop installations but also encompasses ten photovoltaic plants on rooftops and four ground-mounted solar facilities, collectively categorized as one of the largest on-site solar projects worldwide. The entire 123 MWp project anticipates generating around 200 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy in its first year of operation, significantly contributing to Bahrain's decarbonization goals while lowering carbon emissions by 90,000 metric tons.

According to Sherif ElKholy, CEO of Actis and Chairman of Yellow Door Energy, this initiative demonstrates how cost-competitive clean energy can drive industrial growth while establishing a global benchmark for decarbonizing steel production. He emphasized his company’s pride in being part of this transformative project.

Overall, the solar facility aligns with Bahrain's commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060, further illustrating how the nation intends to spearhead sustainable energy solutions for future generations.
