Promoting Health and Wellness: Flail Prevention Day Event Held by JFA and Kewpie
On February 1, 2026, an influential event was hosted at Aeon Mall Ogaki to raise awareness about frailty, organized by the Japan Frailty Prevention Service Promotion Association (JFA) with the involvement of Kewpie Corporation. This event aimed to promote health, focusing on education and practical initiatives to encourage community members to engage in healthier lifestyles.
The term "frailty" refers to a decline in physical and mental vitality due to aging. Situating itself between good health and the need for long-term care, it highlights the significance of proactive measures. Recognizing the early signs of frailty and adopting appropriate interventions can pave the way for recovery to a healthier state, a fact that is receiving increasing attention in public health discussions.
The primary activities took place from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and included various programs to communicate the three main pillars of frailty prevention: "Nutrition," "Physical Activity," and "Social Participation." These aspects were central to the day's activities and discussions in the venue.
Key Activities
1. Frailty Assessment by Local Supporters
Local supporters from Anpachi Town conducted assessments via questionnaires and self-tests of physical functions. Participants had the opportunity to objectively evaluate their current health status and receive personalized advice from these support staff. This interactive assessment aimed at fostering awareness and encouraging participants towards healthier choices.
2. Food Improvement Proposals through Bingo
Utilizing a Bingo card format, the event encouraged participants to incorporate Kewpie's recommended "10 food groups" into their daily diets. These groups include meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, soy-based foods, brightly colored vegetables, seaweed, potatoes, fruits, and oils. This fun and creative activity aimed to reinforce the importance of balanced nutrition in a way that was engaging for attendees.
3. Awareness Campaign and Practical Experimentation
Throughout the event, informative pamphlets and food samples were distributed to showcase preventive measures that can easily be integrated into daily life. In addition, practical experiments linked to store displays were conducted, showing how these ideas could translate into everyday meals. Many participants expressed their surprise and enlightenment regarding dietary needs as they age, with one attendee noting, “I always thought it was important to watch my portion sizes, but I never realized that focusing on protein and energy intake was even more crucial as I grow older.”
The JFA’s Secretary General, Yuichi Nambu, emphasized the community’s commitment to supporting residents in living healthy, vibrant lives. He stated, "With the mantra 'Eat well, stay active to prevent frailty,' we aim to empower our community members."
Kewpie’s Hiroshi Nishiyama added an optimistic outlook for future meal suggestions, addressing how preventing frailty doesn’t have to be overly complex. "Adding just one egg to your usual meals or topping salads with beans to increase protein intake can gradually help meet the intake from the 10 food groups. These small changes can be enjoyable and will build the foundation for a healthy body," he said. Kewpie continues to envision its products as a 'bridge' to diverse and delicious eating experiences that contribute to a joyful and healthy century-long life.
Upcoming Events
Following this successful event, there are plans to host another similar day of activities on February 15 at "Soyora Kamiiida" in conjunction with JFA, featuring frailty assessments and Bingo activities as well.
Through continued participation with JFA, Kewpie remains committed to raising awareness about frailty prevention and supporting the health and longevity of community members through nutrition and education.
