Star-Studded Event: 'This is Crazy!' Benefits Mental Health Awareness in Los Angeles

'This is Crazy!' a Stellar Benefit Performance in Los Angeles

Last night marked a pivotal moment for mental health awareness in Los Angeles as an impressive lineup of talented artists took the stage at The Wallis in Beverly Hills for a spectacular one-night-only performance of "This is Crazy!"

Crafted by the Tony and Obie Award-winning playwright V (previously known as Eve Ensler), this powerful production aimed to benefit the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). The event showcased a profound ensemble cast that featured acclaimed actors including Marisa Tomei, Rosanna Arquette, Lois Smith, Natasha Rothwell, Rudy Pankow, and Rob Morrow, alongside other notable personalities from the film and theater world.

Each artist presented a series of poignant monologues, sharing intimate insights into the complexities surrounding mental illness, survival, family dynamics, and the multifaceted nature of the human experience. Their performances served as both a medium for storytelling and a bridge to foster understanding and empathy regarding mental health issues.

Prominent figures from the entertainment industry, such as CAA's co-chairman Kevin Huvane and notable guests like Andy Buckley, Ellen Barkin, and Moby, were present, adding a sense of community and support to the evening.

“This is Crazy!” was ideated by CAA Community Impact in memory of the beloved talent manager Chris Huvane. Produced by Ruth-Ann Huvane—a mental health advocate and a member of NAMI's national board—and Tony Montenieri of Lotus Productions, the event achieved something truly remarkable: 100% of the proceeds will be directed to NAMI, highlighting the commitment to the cause.

In the words of Daniel H. Gillison, Jr., CEO of NAMI National, “This extraordinary evening reflected the strength of NAMI—national, state, and local—coming together as one community. We are deeply grateful for everyone who made this evening possible. Through storytelling, we opened hearts, challenged stigma, and created connections and hope.”

Events like this one are crucial, as they ignite important conversations about mental health. With over 650 NAMI State Organizations and Affiliates across the country, the organization strives tirelessly to ensure that no one feels isolated in their experiences and that individuals and families have access to vital support.

As the night drew to a close, the performers encouraged attendees not only to learn more about mental health but also to become actively involved in supporting such initiatives. NAMI's work is ongoing, focusing on creating a network of support and hope for those affected by mental health issues.
