Booost Hosts Online Seminar on EU CBAM Implementation for 2026

Booost's Upcoming Online Seminar on EU CBAM

As companies worldwide navigate the evolving landscape of sustainability regulations, Booost Corporation is stepping up to provide critical guidance. On March 12, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM JST, Booost will host its second online seminar focusing on the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which will come into full effect on January 1, 2026.

Background on EU CBAM

The EU CBAM is designed to prevent “carbon leakage,” a scenario where production moves to regions with weaker regulations, thereby undermining the effectiveness of the EU's emissions trading system (EU-ETS). This mechanism imposes fees on specific imported goods that generate significant carbon emissions. Starting in October 2023, importers have been required to report the carbon emissions linked to their imports as part of a transition period leading up to the full implementation.

From January 1, 2026, certain products such as screws and bolts, which are part of steel and aluminum products, will fall under this regulation. Companies will need to report verified data or use default values established by the EU to calculate the embedded carbon emissions associated with producing these items. The first report based on 2026 import volumes must be submitted by September 2027.

In response to these regulatory changes, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is expected to release revised guidelines for calculating CBAM compliance in February 2024. This effort aims to survey domestic manufacturers and better understand the impacts and compliance landscape.
