The Delight of Aged Persimmons: A Sweet Winter Treat
As winter blankets the landscape, a hidden treasure emerges from the chilly embrace of nature: Aged Persimmons from Tohoku Farm. This unique dessert, known as
Myo-tan persimmons, has a rich history originating from Aomori Prefecture, where these native fruits have been cultivated for generations. While persimmons are typically harvested in autumn—often transformed into dried fruit due to their lingering astringency—Myo-tan persimmons undergo a special maturation process during the winter.
At Hotel Continental Fuchu, located in the heart of Tokyo’s Fuchu City, we pride ourselves on offering guests a unique dining experience that celebrates seasonal ingredients. Starting January 9, 2026, our three in-house restaurants will feature these exquisite Aged Persimmons, harvested at their peak ripeness from our own Tohoku Farm. The farm practices sustainable agriculture, allowing the persimmons to ripen on the tree, providing a depth of flavor that is unmatched.
The Winter Maturation Process
The magic of the Aged Persimmons lies in the winter cold. As the temperatures plummet, the fruit freezes overnight, only to thaw gently in the morning sun. This repetitive cycle effectively removes the astringency, transforming the fruit into a naturally sweet delight. Despite the harsh winter conditions, which at times can damage the fruit, it is this resilience that contributes to the rich flavor profile of the Aged Persimmons.
After carefully selecting only the fruits within reach, our dedicated staff at Tohoku Farm ensures that the highest quality persimmons are prepared for delivery. The remaining fruits are left for the birds, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability and nature.
Once harvested, these precious fruits are transported directly to Hotel Continental Fuchu, where they are served fresh and unadulterated—without any added sugars or preservatives. Guests can indulge in the pure essence of winter’s bounty, a perfect representation of our philosophy to allow nature's flavors to shine through.
Experience the Seasonal Flavors
Our commitment to an exceptional dining experience revolves around seasonal produce, allowing our guests to savor the true essence of food culture. The Aged Persimmons will be available at our buffet restaurant, Tohoku Farm, as well as our Chinese restaurant, Philly, and the Colt restaurant, priced at ¥800 for a single serving and ¥1,500 for a set with wild herbal tea. We believe that experiencing fresh, seasonal ingredients is a luxury that should be enjoyed to the fullest.
