Leica Store & Gallery Chicago Unveils 'Slant Rhymes' Exhibition Featuring Alex and Rebecca Norris Webb
A Creative Fusion of Photography: 'Slant Rhymes'
Leica Store & Gallery Chicago invites you to explore the profound interconnectedness of art through its latest exhibition, 'Slant Rhymes.' This collaborative show, opening on August 28 and running through October 11, 2026, features the dynamic works of renowned photographers Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb.
For nearly three decades, the couple has pushed the boundaries of visual storytelling, and 'Slant Rhymes' encapsulates the essence of their artistic journey. The exhibition offers viewers a thoughtful selection of photographic diptychs, each pairing images from both artists that evoke resonant relationships. By placing their photographs side by side, the exhibit cultivates a conversation that transcends the specifics of individual works, inviting audiences to perceive art through a dual lens of romance and creativity.
The title, 'Slant Rhymes,' is inspired by poetic terminology denoting that the paired images possess imperfect parallels. This concept is elegantly executed in their works, where color themes, geometric forms, and emotional undertones intertwine to enhance the viewer's experience. As visitors contemplate each pairing, they can uncover fresh interpretations and nuances that may otherwise remain hidden in isolation.
Alex and Rebecca first realized the potential of their images communicating when collaborating on 'Violet Isle,' a project that originally stemmed from separate photographic endeavors focused on Cuba. Over time, these distinct visions merged into a unified narrative, allowing the photographers to appreciate how their artistic expressions resonated. 'Slant Rhymes' further develops this relational dialogue by showcasing works created from their friendship in the late 1980s to their marriage in 1999, allowing a holistic narrative to unfold.
The featured works not only reflect the external realities of each subject captured but also delve into the inner lives, memories, and emotional backdrops of the photographers themselves. As viewers engage with the exhibition, they'll discover that photography can serve as a mirror, not just to the world but to the creators' shared experiences.
In addition to the exhibit, the Leica Gallery will be hosting an illuminating artist talk on October 10 at 3:00 PM, providing insight into the evolution of the Webbs' artistic dialogues. This session will include a slideshow presentation paired with discussions on how their works harmonically intersect. Following the talk, a reception is scheduled from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, providing attendees an opportunity to engage directly with the artists themselves.
For those aspiring to refine their photographic skills, Alex and Rebecca Norris Webb will conduct a master class titled 'Finding Your Vision,' as part of the Leica Akademie program. This workshop is tailored for both newcomers and seasoned photographers, encompassing portfolio reviews and constructive editing exercises aimed at deepening individual artistic expression. Interested participants should apply before the deadline of September 14, 2026.
The exhibition hours at Leica Gallery Chicago are Sundays from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM and Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The gallery is located at 800 N Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60611. To learn more about the event and other projects at Leica, visit their website or contact them directly.
