Celebrating Excellence in Maritime Training: MOL Training Center Leads the World
The MOL Training Center (Phils.) Inc., a subsidiary of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), has achieved a monumental milestone by becoming the world leader in the number of DNV-certified training programs. Under the leadership of President Teodorico De Guzman, this training center is now recognized for its extensive range of programs that cater to the needs of LNG carrier crew members.
The pivotal achievement stems from the center’s educational program titled the
LNG Carrier Standard Training Course. This program has been acknowledged as compliant with the latest model courses set forth by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), headquartered in London. By doing so, MOL Training Center became the first maritime training institution in the Philippines to receive this certification, joining the ranks of other global leaders, such as MOL Maritime (India) Pvt. Ltd. Together, these institutions boast a total of six certifications—the highest number for a single training entity in the world.
A Celebration of Achievements
On June 3, 2025, MOL Training Center celebrated its 20th anniversary. The ceremony showcased the latest advancements in maritime training, including the introduction of state-of-the-art engine and cargo simulators for LNG and chemical operations. The newly established cargo simulator plays a crucial role in ensuring that the training program reflects the latest SIRE (Ship Inspection Report Program) requirements and aligns with the competency standards set forth by SIGTTO (Society of International Gas Tanker & Terminal Operators Ltd.). This progressive training initiative significantly contributed to the center's recent certification triumph.
MOL Training Center's leadership emphasizes its commitment to supporting the expanding LNG shipping business by enhancing the training infrastructure for crew members. This commitment not only vows to improve the competency of seafarers but also aligns with MOL’s dedication to sustainability and community development—a core tenet of their operational philosophy.
Future Prospects and Training Standards
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines is diligently focused on cultivating a steadfast workforce that meets the highest operational standards in terms of safety and efficiency. By standardizing training content across various nations and offering high-quality maritime education that does not discriminate against nationality, MOL strives to secure a supply of exceptionally skilled maritime professionals committed to the highest levels of safety at sea.
The collaboration with DNV, the world's foremost maritime classification society, reinforces the quality and safety of these training programs. Through their accreditation, prospective trainees can trust that they will acquire vital skills and knowledge deemed necessary for safe maritime operations.
This approach is critical as the maritime industry navigates continuous challenges, including sustainability and the evolving technological landscape. In committing to align with international standards, MOL aims to uphold its reputation as a reliable operator in the global maritime sector.
In conclusion, MOL Training Center’s recognition as the world leader in DNV-certified training programs opens new avenues for maritime workforce training and safety, demonstrating its proactive approach to addressing the demands of the fast-growing LNG shipping sector.
