Japanese Wide Communications Launches Comprehensive Support for Local Leather Branding Initiatives

Japanese Wide Communications Launches Comprehensive Local Leather Branding Initiative

Japanese Wide Communications has recently initiated an innovative project aimed at supporting local leather branding across Japan. This initiative focuses on developing high-quality leather products while streamlining the entire supply chain, from raw hide tanning to e-commerce logistics. The newly introduced program, named the “Regional Beef Leather Comprehensive Brand Development Project,” aims to boost local resources and create a sustainable business model that can enhance regional pride and economic development.

Background and Objectives

Despite the wealth of high-quality materials and expertise found throughout Japan, many regions struggle to realize their potential in creating well-rounded product offerings. Issues such as a lack of knowledge in product commercialization and insufficient manpower for e-commerce operations often lead to missed opportunities. To tackle these problems, Japanese Wide Communications leverages its successful experience with the Izumo Leather brand in Shimane Prefecture. By systematizing the know-how acquired from its operations, the company is set to fully support the production and distribution processes for local specialty items.

First Collaboration: Echigo Leather Planning

As the inaugural project of this initiative, Japanese Wide Communications has signed a business commission contract with Echigo Leather Planning, focusing on developing new products using leather from “Niigata Wagyu,” a brand endorsed by the Niigata government. This project is led by Ken Kato, a former Yomiuri Giants player and current coach for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars. Kato's mission is to establish Niigata Wagyu leather as a new local specialty product. Recently, he met with Niigata Governor Hanazono and was appointed as an ambassador for the Niigata brand.

The realization of this project was initiated by a direct request for support from Echigo Leather Planning, recognizing the successful operational framework Japanese Wide Communications had established with Izumo Leather. With an operational start date set for June 30, 2026, the partnership will provide comprehensive support in the following areas:

1. Upstream Support for Production and Development
- Tanning and Dyeing Collaboration: The initiative will facilitate connections with top-notch tanners to transform raw hides sourced by Echigo Leather Planning into high-quality leather products such as baseball gloves, wallets, business card holders, and bags.
- Product Development Guidance: Utilizing insights gained from Izumo Leather’s successful operations, the project will support the planning and development of high-value leather products, which are expected to average around 15,000 yen in price.

2. Downstream Support for Sales and Operations
- E-commerce Development and Infrastructure Management: This includes establishing a secure e-commerce platform with payment systems and security measures.
- E-commerce Operations and Data Analysis: Assistance will be provided for regular site updates, product listings, and monthly reports to suggest improvements.
- Fulfillment Services: This encompasses efficient packaging and shipping based on customer orders, inventory management, and first-line customer support.

Comments from Ken Kato of Echigo Leather Planning

“I returned to my hometown of Niigata after retiring from professional baseball and have been fortunate to connect with many locals, receiving numerous insights and encouragement along the way. After years of preparation, we are finally ready to launch our first project.”

Kato aims to cultivate Niigata’s unique Niigata Wagyu into a line of premium leather products, turning it into a new specialty of the region. He acknowledged the challenges of establishing a comprehensive support system for product development and e-commerce. The collaboration with Japanese Wide Communications, led by Satoshi Hirai, was a pivotal moment in his project, as they bring extensive experience in both manufacturing and logistics.

“Thanks to their robust support, we can focus entirely on sourcing and evaluating top-quality raw hides, confident that we will deliver outstanding products nationwide.”

Unique Support System Leveraging Izumo Leather's Know-How

Unlike typical e-commerce operators who only manage the sale and delivery of finished products, Japanese Wide Communications understands all aspects of the value chain from processing (tanning and dyeing) to product creation, site construction, marketing, and logistics through its experiences with Izumo Leather. This holistic approach allows client businesses to concentrate on sourcing and brand development while ensuring seamless product realization and distribution.

Future Prospects

Looking ahead, Japanese Wide Communications is committed to bolstering the brand value of Echigo Leather Planning and expanding their e-commerce sales rapidly. Furthermore, this initiative is poised to kickstart similar support efforts for specialty products across Japan, promoting the sale and digital transformation of regional industries, thus contributing to broader industrial revitalization.
