Momoyama City Expands Online Support for Childcare Families with Pediatric Services

Enhancing Childcare Support in Momoyama City

In a significant step towards enhancing support for families with children, Kids Public Inc., based in Tokyo, has announced its partnership with Momoyama City in Fukushima Prefecture. Starting May 15, 2025, residents will gain access to the 'Obstetrics and Pediatric Online' service, developed by Kids Public. This service aims to provide parents with easy access to consultations with obstetricians, pediatricians, and midwives through their smartphones, fostering a nurturing environment for pregnancy, childbirth, and child-rearing.

Background for Implementing Online Services

Located in the heart of Fukushima, Momoyama City is surrounded by numerous rivers and is often referred to as the “Heso no Machi,” or “The City of Water.” The city boasts beautiful natural scenery with the Abukuma River flowing through it and the Abukuma Highlands to the east, while the majestic Adatara Mountains rise to the west. Historically, this city has been an important transportation hub, and it continues to maintain excellent access to other regions thanks to the Tohoku Expressway and National Route 4.

In recent years, Momoyama City has prioritized initiatives to support families with children, aiming to create an environment in which the next generation can grow up healthy and happy. As part of its child-rearing policies, the city has provided a variety of resources, including the ‘Momoyama Childcare Handbook’ and the 'Momoyama City Childcare Application Ayumi', in addition to enhancing support centers for families.

Despite these efforts, the city faces challenges. Limited medical facilities offering obstetric and pediatric services, coupled with the anxiety experienced by parents during the postpartum and childcare phases, have highlighted the need for an extended support system. In response, the city has decided to incorporate the 'Obstetrics and Pediatric Online' service to ensure a seamless continuum of care from pregnancy through childhood, reinforcing the security and support available to all families.

Online Consultation: Accessing Healthcare from Home

The 'Obstetrics and Pediatric Online' services enable parents to consult with healthcare professionals via their smartphones. The online platform provides the following features:

  • - Evening Consultations: Available on weekdays from 6 PM to 10 PM, parents can schedule a 10-minute consultation with either an obstetrician or a pediatrician.
  • - Anytime Consultations: An always-available option where parents can submit messages through a web form, allowing for a one-on-one question-and-answer format at their convenience, 24/7.
  • - Daytime Midwifery Consultations: These are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1 PM to 5 PM, allowing parents to chat with a midwife without a prior appointment.

This online platform serves as a crucial resource, contributing to Momoyama City's ongoing efforts to enhance maternal and child health support. By making healthcare consultations more accessible, the city hopes to reduce parents' worries regarding pregnancy and child-rearing.
