Tokyo Kasei Kogyo's New Employees Embrace Generative AI in Digital Transformation Training

Empowering Future Innovators: Tokyo Kasei Kogyo's AI Training for New Employees

In a bold move towards digital transformation, Tokyo Kasei Kogyo Co., Ltd. introduced a groundbreaking training program for its new employees in May 2025. This five-day workshop, designed by ProtoOut Studio (operated by dotstudio), combined Generative AI with digital prototyping, focusing on cultivating the skills of 'citizen developers' across various sectors including retail, healthcare, and food service.

A Hands-On Approach to Learning

The curriculum emphasized experiential learning, ensuring participants moved beyond acquiring knowledge to actively engaging in the creation process. This approach led participants to think critically about their operational challenges and develop practical solutions using no-code tools and Generative AI. The training prioritized hands-on experience, marking the attendees’ first steps towards becoming adept at utilizing technology to generate innovative solutions.

The structure of the training could be broken down into three key phases:

Phase 1: Exploring External Tools

Participants were introduced to technologies such as LINE Bot development, ChatGPT applications, and image generation AI. This phase was designed to spark creativity and interest in the development process.

Phase 2: Creating Apps for Business Needs

In this phase, participants utilized Microsoft Power Apps and Power Automate to create applications tailored to address real workplace challenges. This activity encouraged them to directly relate their learning to their day-to-day tasks.

Phase 3: Final Project Development

Under the guidance of senior employees, teams brainstormed and developed practical business support tools that could enhance operations. These final projects demonstrated the students' grasp of the concepts and their ability to apply them meaningfully.

Innovations Arising from the Workshop

The workshop culminated in presentations from eight teams showcasing their projects. Each project aimed at improving aspects of workplace efficiency. Key examples included:
  • - Meeting Minutes Creation and Search App: This app enhanced the recording and search capabilities of meeting notes, integrating SharePoint, Outlook, and Power Apps for greater efficiency.
  • - Automated Task Classification with ChatGPT: Using the ChatGPT API, this tool streamlined email classification, automatically organizing tasks into Microsoft To Do and Outlook.
  • - All-in-One Lab Notebook: An innovative solution that combined image sharing, reagent calculations, and chat functions, simplifying the documentation process for experimental work.
  • - Automated PDF Translation and Summary for Research Papers: This application automated the extraction of necessary information, transforming documents into easily digestible summaries using AI.

Positive Feedback and Outcomes

The participants reflected on their experiences, with a remarkable satisfaction rate of 94.4%. Over 90% expressed a noticeable change in their attitudes towards technology and its applications in their roles, with many indicating a newfound confidence in their ability to harness digital tools effectively.

Voices from the Participants

After the training, many expressed relieved sentiments towards technology, citing a reduction in their anxiety about IT and a desire to further their education in digital tools. "The joy of seeing my created flow function in real-time was unforgettable," shared one participant, reflecting a common sentiment across the board.

Corporate Perspective

Maki Nakashima, the HR Manager at Tokyo Kasei Kogyo, noted a significant shift in employees' attitudes, with many who initially lacked interest in technology becoming enthusiastic about prototyping.
