Expanding the Trail Revival Project: onX and Toyota's Commitment to Nature
onX, a leader in digital navigation technology, is renewing its partnership with Toyota for a second consecutive year to extend the Trail Revival Project across 24 locations in the United States. This initiative, aimed at preserving and restoring access to public land trails, is a crucial response to the rising popularity of outdoor activities and the declining number of volunteers in trail maintenance groups.
The Trail Revival Project will mobilize volunteers and off-road clubs to tackle 24 distinct trail restoration and cleanup projects throughout 2026. These collaborations will focus on maintaining and reopening trails that are threatened by various elements including erosion, storms, invasive overgrowth, and illegal dumping. The timing of this expansion is particularly important, as increased outdoor recreation has placed a greater strain on public lands. Despite off-road trail clubs contributing an impressive 2.6 million hours of volunteer work annually—equivalent to the work of over 1,700 full-time staff—these organizations are witnessing a decrease in participation. This has left many trails poorly maintained and susceptible to degradation and collapse.
As the main supporter of this initiative, Toyota will contribute funding, transportation, and logistical resources to bolster these restoration efforts nationwide. Last year proved to be a success, with over 400 volunteers participating in 14 projects across 13 states, where they collectively devoted more than 2,400 hours of service. This led to the restoration of 30 trails and nearly 50 miles of access routes through debris removal, drainage improvements, trash cleanup, and other maintenance activities.
