Pure DC Secures Europe's Largest Data Centre Lease for 2025, Aiming for Digital Growth

Pure Data Centres Group Takes Major Step

In a landmark move for the digital landscape of Europe, Pure Data Centres Group (Pure DC) has officially signed the largest standalone hyperscale data centre lease for 2025. This significant lease focuses on a sprawling 78MW campus located in Westpoort, Amsterdam—a hub often characterized by its constrained infrastructure. Pure DC has committed over €1 billion to develop the site, with plans to bolster the region's digital capabilities and energy resilience.

The Infrastructure Investment

The hyperscale customer will lease the entire campus, a notable achievement reflecting the increasing demand for cloud services and AI functionalities. As part of this comprehensive deal, Pure DC has acquired the site, obtained necessary planning permissions, and established 100MVA of power through a dedicated private substation. This process involved intricate negotiations and creative partnerships that took place over several months, underlining the challenges associated with securing infrastructure in a competitive market.

Job Creation and Local Impact

A remarkable aspect of this initiative is its contribution to job creation. Over 1,000 jobs are expected to be generated directly through this project, in addition to boosting the local supply chain and skilled workforce. Once operational, the data centre is projected to provide approximately 80 permanent positions that will include roles for engineers, maintenance staff, security personnel, and administrative staff, promoting local employment and growth.

Design Features and Technological Efficiency

Designated as AMS01, the data centre complex will feature three towering structures of 85 meters, powered by a private substation firmly connected to the 50kV grid. Each of these towers will house 26MW of data halls, showcasing a design geared for high-density computing. Moreover, the facility aims to achieve energy efficiency with a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.2, reflecting the Netherlands’ commitment to sustainable energy practices.

Commitment to the Community

Beyond the immediate economic benefits, Pure DC is dedicated to engaging with local communities surrounding its operational sites. In Amsterdam, the company aims to mirror programs from its other initiatives, which include collaborating with local schools and universities to provide training and career guidance, supporting local charities, and partnering on environmental conservation efforts. CEO Dame Dawn Childs emphasized the importance of these community connections while discussing the project’s broader implications for local authorities and regional development.

The Future of Pure DC

As the development of the data halls is set to commence in January 2026, this ambitious project stands as a testament to Pure DC's ongoing efforts to meet the surging demand for digital infrastructure in Europe. With such a significant investment in Amsterdam’s digital ecosystem, Pure DC is poised not only to transform the local infrastructure landscape but also to set a standard for future hyperscale data centre projects across the continent.
