Digital Realty Expands Its Reach into Indonesia
Digital Realty, a prominent player in the cloud and carrier-neutral data center industry, has officially entered Indonesia by launching a new joint venture called Digital Realty Bersama. This 50-50 partnership with Bersama Digital Infrastructure Asia (BDIA) aims to enhance data center capabilities in Indonesia, a country experiencing rapid digital growth thanks to its young, technology-savvy population.
The joint venture will leverage BDIA’s established Jakarta-based data center platform, Bersama Digital Data Centres (BDDC), which is known for its carrier-neutral services. The collaboration brings together Digital Realty's extensive global experience and BDDC's local expertise, enabling the development of state-of-the-art data centers that will support Indonesia's burgeoning digital economy.
The Digital Economy Landscape in Indonesia
According to industry forecasts, the Indonesian digital economy is set for substantial growth, aided by the increasing adoption of digital services. With a rising middle class and accelerated internet penetration, the demand for data center services is expected to surge. The Jakarta market alone is predicted to generate nearly $499 million in colocation revenue by 2025, with a projected compound annual growth rate of 11%.
The partnership will focus on expanding services within this exciting market. It incorporates critical facilities such as the newly launched CGK11 data center, strategically situated in Central Jakarta. This facility currently boasts a robust IT load capacity of 5 megawatts and has plans for future expansion, potentially increasing capacity to 32 megawatts. Moreover, it will provide direct connectivity to Indonesia's largest internet exchange provider, ensuring high accessibility for businesses.
Leadership and Management Vision
The Digital Realty Bersama joint venture is managed by a team of seasoned professionals from both companies. It includes Angelo Syailendra, the CEO, and Setyanto Hantoro, the Chairman, who have been instrumental in guiding the operations of the newly formed entity. They are joined by Krishna Worotikan, the former Country CFO of Microsoft Indonesia, who brings valuable financial acumen to the team.
“We are committed to supporting Indonesia’s growth by offering businesses the essential infrastructure they need to thrive in the digital age,” said Serene Nah, Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific at Digital Realty. The synergy between Digital Realty's international expertise and BDIA's local market insights promises to deliver exceptional value to Indonesian businesses looking to expand their digital capabilities.
Enabling Future Growth Through Technological Advancements
Digital Realty Bersama aims not only to provide foundational data center services but also to facilitate the integration of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence into Indonesia's tech ecosystem. The collaboration is expected to support companies in their digital transformation journeys by providing access to cutting-edge technology and operational best practices.
Alongside infrastructure development, the joint venture will incorporate advanced service orchestration via ServiceFabric™, Digital Realty’s platform designed to manage complex workflows in hybrid IT environments, ensuring seamless integration of various services for its clients.
The establishment of Digital Realty Bersama signifies a pivotal moment in Indonesia's digital evolution. As the demand for reliable data centers continues to grow, this joint venture positions itself as a vital connectivity hub, enabling businesses to harness the power of robust digital infrastructure.
Moving forward, Digital Realty Bersama will play a crucial role in not only meeting the immediate needs of the Indonesian market but also in supporting its long-term digital aspirations. By combining global insights with deep local knowledge, this venture is set to become a cornerstone of Indonesia's evolving digital landscape.
