Kincho and Able Collaborate to Tackle Bugs with New Survey Insights

Kincho and Able Unite for Bug Awareness Campaign

On June 4th, known as Bug Day, Kincho, under the company Dainihon Jochugiku Co., and Able, a real estate company based in Tokyo, conducted a noteworthy survey exploring bugs and pest control among single and family households. The findings of this research will not only inform but also shape a special collaboration campaign aimed at making life easier for those living alone.

Survey Overview

The survey was carried out over three days from May 10 to May 12, 2025, collecting responses through the internet from a diverse pool of 895 participants in their 20s to 40s. Notably, the survey's insights shed light on how bug encounters are managed in various living situations.

Family vs. Single Living

The results indicated a striking difference between family households and single-dwelling situations. Over 60% of respondents living with family reported that someone steps up to deal with pests like cockroaches, while about 30% of those living alone admitted they handle pest control themselves. Alarmingly, over 30% of singles reported they often let cockroaches linger without attempting to remove them.

When searching for a residence, an impressive 80% of both genders highlighted the importance of pest-free environments. Particularly, nearly half of young women in their 20s expressed that ensuring low bug prevalence should be the top priority in their housing searches, marking a growing awareness and concern regarding pest issues.

Housing Type Implications

Further analysis revealed that those living in single-family homes are more susceptible to bug encounters compared to apartment dwellers. The kitchen emerged as the primary location for sightings, suggesting that drainage and ventilation systems might serve as entry points for pests. Interestingly, residents in apartment complexes encounter bugs not just indoors, but also in common areas and building entrances, with between 40-50% reporting sightings in these spaces. This insight stresses the importance of considering shared spaces when choosing a new home, especially for those who are particularly averse to insects.

Proactive Pest Control Measures

The survey highlighted a trend in proactive pest control measures—households with families tend to be more proactive, with over half using bug repellents. Conversely, singles showed a different pattern, exhibiting efforts like keeping windows shut but also indicating that about 30% of them are not taking any measures at all against pests. This suggests a significant gap in pest control practices, revealing that while singles may express concerns about bugs, their strategies to manage these issues are often insufficient.

Kincho and Able's Initiative for a Bug-Free Summer

Recognizing the importance of these findings, Kincho and Able have collaborated on a campaign to enhance the living experience for singles during the summer, which often poses increased bug activity. They are offering a draw for 100 individuals currently living alone to receive a set of Kincho's recommended pest control products.
