Avidity Biosciences Celebrates Rare Disease Day

On February 28, Avidity Biosciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: RNA), a pioneering biopharmaceutical company, marked Rare Disease Day® by participating in global initiatives that emphasize the need for awareness and treatment of rare neuromuscular diseases. This day serves as a crucial platform for raising visibility about rare diseases and the obstacles faced by patients and their families.

Commitment to Awareness and Treatment

Sarah Boyce, President and CEO of Avidity, explained, "Rare Disease Day represents an important opportunity for all of us, including people living with rare diseases, their friends, family and caregivers, and advocacy organizations around the world, to spotlight the many challenges that rare diseases present in daily living.” Avidity is committed to fostering broader awareness of devastating conditions such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1 (DM1), Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD), and rare genetic cardiomyopathies.

Global Collaboration

Since its inception by EURORDIS in 2008, Rare Disease Day has gathered more than 70 national alliance patient organizations to raise awareness on a global level. This year, Avidity is participating in initiatives to engage both healthcare professionals and the general public in discussions regarding the challenges and urgent need for therapeutic advancements in rare diseases.

One of the prominent events Avidity supported was the EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases' "Rare Disease Week on Capitol Hill," held from February 24 to 26, 2025, in Washington, D.C. This event brought together advocates to discuss the importance of policies that facilitate research and treatment accessibility.

Additionally, Avidity sponsored a Jett Foundation webinar titled “Thriving with Duchenne,” showcasing a panel discussion on the experiences of individuals impacted by DMD. This session highlighted not just the personal battles faced by these families but also their resilience and determination to find hope amid challenges.
