Discover the Art of Washi Folding and Dyeing
Hotel Intergate Tokyo Kyobashi, operated by Granvista Hotels & Resorts, is hosting a remarkable craft workshop on
September 13, 2025, from
15:00 to 18:00. This workshop will explore the traditional Japanese art of
Washi folding and dyeing, allowing participants to create unique folding fans and wind chimes from beautifully dyed paper.
Washi, a traditional Japanese paper, is known for its durability and ability to filter light softly, making it a beloved material in art and craft. This ancient craft is produced from natural materials, resulting in a low environmental impact and showcasing exceptional craftsmanship that has been recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
During the workshop, participants will engage in a hands-on experience of the
“ori-zome” technique, where they will fold Washi paper, immerse it in vibrant dyes, and produce one-of-a-kind patterns. The dyed paper can then be transformed into either a fan or a wind chime, perfect for the lingering warmth of the late summer days.
This craft experience is designed to be simple yet engaging, making it accessible for children and beginners alike. Each participant will have the chance to explore their creativity and discover unexpected patterns formed by the dyeing process. It’s an invitation to connect with Japan’s rich tradition and indulge in a unique artistic journey.
