Exhibition: LONG LIFE DESIGN 4 - Innovative Designs from 47 Prefectures
From July 4 to October 19, 2025, d47 MUSEUM in Shibuya, Tokyo will host the 36th planned exhibition titled "LONG LIFE DESIGN 4: Innovative Designs from 47 Prefectures." This unique event aims to connect the diverse practices and cultures across Japan’s prefectures through an engaging exhibition style that emphasizes the ingenuity behind local products.
At this exhibition, visitors will discover an array of unique products and designs that reflect the identity of each prefecture, showcasing not only tangible goods but also the stories and systems behind them. From products to projects, the evolution of designs that tackle challenges and promote sustainability will be highlighted, moving beyond traditional aesthetic values to include functional creative ideas.
The previous exhibition, "Design Products 2014," presented a juxtaposition of traditional products with contemporary needs, demonstrating how they evolve and adapt over time. Now, a decade later, the concept of design has transcended mere appearances and is increasingly focused on practical ingenuity and frameworks that support a sustainable future. This year's exhibition aims to combine the distinctive characteristics of each region with the inherent beauty that design can offer, selecting 47 groups to explore the current landscape of Japanese design.
