Enhancing Family Connections: Lysol’s Initiative for Healthier Schools
Lysol is taking a significant step in fostering family engagement and healthier school environments through their recent launch of the
HERE for Healthy Schools Quality Time Off (QTO) Grant. In a strategic partnership with the National PTA, this initiative aims to provide essential support for families, enabling them to be more present during pivotal school moments.
From field trips to read-a-thons, schools provide unique opportunities for children and families to create lasting memories. Nevertheless, many families are hindered by the spread of illness, which can lead to unanticipated absences. In fact, a staggering 78% of parents have reported missing key school events due to prior commitments, such as personal time off (PTO) already utilized for caring for sick children. This trend underscores a critical need for proactive measures to safeguard health in educational settings.
The Launch of the QTO Grant
Through its established
HERE for Healthy Schools initiative, initiated back in 2019, Lysol is committed to combating the spread of illness-causing germs across classrooms. The QTO Grant represents a continuation of this commitment, aiming not only to diminish illness but also to promote quality time spent between parents and children during crucial learning experiences.
Lysol has enlisted the help of renowned singer, actress, and advocate Kelly Rowland to amplify the initiative's message. Rowland, a mother and PTA member, emphasizes the pivotal role that being present plays in a child’s educational experience. "As a parent, I know how much it means to be there for important moments, whether it’s a school play or a special event,” she states. She continues, “Fewer unexpected sick days mean more quality time with my family, which is why I proudly support Lysol's mission."
Product Donations: A Two-Fold Approach
In an effort to support the health of students, Lysol's initiative offers product donations alongside monetary grants. From July 1 to August 31, the brand will donate one canister of
Lysol Disinfecting Wipes to classrooms in need for every pack sold. This effort aims to protect approximately 60 million students against illness-causing germs, fostering a healthier school environment.
From July 13 to July 24, 2026, PTAs in high-need elementary schools serving grades K-6 can apply for financial aid through the National PTA's website. Grants will include both funding for in-school family activities and in-kind product donations to enhance cleaning and sanitation efforts. This holistic approach not only improves germ prevention but also strengthens family involvement in schools.
How Schools Can Apply for the Grant
Eligible schools are encouraged to visit
PTA.org/QTO and complete their applications by July 24, 2026. Successful applicants will be announced at a special school event in September 2026, allowing winners to dive into their planned activities with the much-needed resources provided by Lysol and the National PTA.
Mike Hartman, Vice President of Lysol, states, “The back-to-school season is a time filled with meaningful moments that shape children’s educational experiences. Illness can rob these families of the opportunity to create significant memories. Through the QTO Grant and our Buy One, Give One initiative, we aim to keep students healthy and engaged in learning.”
While the initiative strives to minimize health-related absences, therein lies the potential for families to optimize their time together, transforming personal time off into truly quality time.
