Wakayama Prefecture is renowned as the leading producer of plums in Japan, particularly in the towns of Tanabe and Minabe, which have reported significant losses due to these extreme weather conditions. The recent hailstorms have resulted in substantial damage over a wide area, leading to one of the biggest impacts seen in the past decade. Fruit that cannot be shipped as regular products due to bruising or other defects will now be available for sale, specifically for home processing into items like umeboshi (pickled plums) or umeshu (plum wine).

To encourage consumption and provide support, JA Town will bear all shipping costs, allowing customers to purchase the affected green plums without any shipping fees. This initiative is not just about selling fruit; it's about fostering community spirit by encouraging customers to support local farmers during difficult times.
