Experience the Charm of Japanese Culture at NIWA's First Ever Wafes Festival in Kyoto Station

The Wafes Festival, presented by NAKED, INC., is set to take place at the NIWA Art Terrace Lounge, conveniently situated within the Kyoto Station building. Spanning three days from May 3rd to May 5th, 2025, this festival aims to immerse visitors in the beauty and richness of Japanese culture. This year’s theme is 'Bringing Traditional Japanese Culture Closer and Making it More Enjoyable' and promises an array of engaging activities.

A Unique Experience of Kyoto's Cultural Heritage

The NIWA Art Terrace Lounge offers a unique opportunity to savor Kyoto’s renowned specialties while enjoying a spacious and luxurious atmosphere. The Wafes Festival will transform the 7th-floor East Plaza of Kyoto Station into a hub for hands-on experiences related to traditional Japanese culture.

Ideal for families, the festival features a variety of programs, including workshops where participants can experience traditional Japanese arts like tea ceremony and paper-making. Attendees can also enjoy exclusive Japanese sake tastings paired with carefully selected snacks from NIWA, ideal for adults seeking to explore the depth of Japanese sake culture.

Taste the Finest Sake

As part of the adult-only activities, visitors can join in a sake tasting experience, sampling selections from esteemed Kyoto breweries. Participants will have the chance to pair two or three different types of sake with gourmet snacks curated by NIWA. Breweries from the region, such as Gekkeikan, Saito Shuzo, and Yamamoto Honke, will showcase their unique flavors, giving attendees a chance to savor the essence of Kyoto’s rich brewing history. This experience promises to deepen and enrich the understanding of sake, ensuring a leisurely and indulgent 'adult time' at the festival.

Interactive Cultural Workshops for All Ages

From May 3rd to 4th, the Wafes Festival will feature engaging Japanese cultural workshops designed for children and families. A mini tea ceremony led by the Urasenke school offers participants a serene moment to prepare and savor tea, encouraging creativity and mindfulness in a shared familial space. Additionally, a traditional paper-making workshop will allow families to get hands-on experience with the skills passed down through generations by artisans at Kyoto Karakami Maruni. Although reservations for workshops are recommended, walk-in participation will be allowed if spots are open on the day of the event.

To secure a spot, guests can visit the official NIWA reservation website.

Outside, a spacious area will feature a 'Cultural Play Corner' and a nostalgic 'Mini Festival Corner', allowing everyone from little children to adults to enjoy this vibrant celebration of Japanese culture in their unique styles.
