Marcus Brown Announces Retirement Plans After Decades of Service at Entergy
Marcus Brown to Retire from Entergy in Spring 2026
Entergy Corporation announced today that Marcus Brown, the company's Executive Vice President and General Counsel, will retire in Spring 2026, ending an extraordinary legal career that spans nearly 40 years. Over the years, Brown has made significant contributions to the company, industry, and the communities it serves. His departure marks the end of an era at Entergy, where he has been a pivotal figure in various initiatives, including legal advancements and community service efforts.
After his retirement, Brown will transition to the role of Executive Legal Advisor to Entergy's Chair and CEO, Drew Marsh. In this capacity, he is expected to continue offering valuable insights and guidance, particularly in supporting Entergy's ongoing strategic initiatives.
Drew Marsh, Entergy's CEO, praised Brown as a visionary leader whose contributions have been instrumental in navigating the company through challenging times. "Marcus has not only been a trusted adviser and friend but also a driving force in capturing growth opportunities that benefit our stakeholders for future generations," Marsh remarked.
Two senior executives will take over Brown's responsibilities, ensuring a seamless transition in the legal department. Dan Falstad, currently the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, will step into the role of Senior Vice President and General Counsel, overseeing both the legal department and the ethics and compliance organization. John Hudson, who has served as Senior Vice President and Chief External Affairs Officer, will assume additional responsibilities related to security affairs, reporting directly to Marsh.
Brown holds an impressive track record of leadership, having led key corporate initiatives, including his role as Chair of the Host Committee for the New Orleans Super Bowl LIX in 2025. Under his guidance, Entergy's legal department gained a reputation for its commitment to pro bono legal assistance, supporting access to justice for underserved communities across its service territory. Notably, in 2018, Entergy became one of the first Fortune 500 companies to appoint a full-time in-house counsel dedicated to pro bono work.
His dedication to community service has been recognized by several organizations. In 2021, Brown received the Alexis de Tocqueville Society Award from the United Way of Southeast Louisiana, honoring his commitment to eradicating poverty. Additionally, he was named one of the top global in-house general counsels by the Financial Times in 2020. His contributions have also earned him the Distinguished Attorney Award from the Louisiana Bar Foundation in 2019, alongside a Presidents' Award from the New Orleans Bar Association in 2018.
Brown has played a crucial role in Entergy's Power of Prosperity program, committing $20 million over ten years to support students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. His dedication to educational advancement and equity is evident in his board membership at Tulane University and Energy Insurance Mutual, where he continues to influence future leaders in the energy sector.
As Falstad prepares to assume the legal helm, he comes with profound insights gained since joining Entergy in 2009, focusing heavily on securities law, corporate governance, and mergers and acquisitions. Falstad’s legal expertise is expected to ensure continuity in the legal department’s operations and fostering strong relationships with corporate governance actors.
As Entergy prepares for its future post-Brown, the company remains committed to its mission of delivering reliable energy services to over 3 million customers across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. Through investments in clean energy generation and community initiatives, Entergy reinforces its commitment to sustainability and corporate citizenship.
"We are excited to welcome Dan into a permanent leadership role on the executive team, allowing us to build on the solid foundation established by Marcus for continued growth and excellence in legal affairs," Marsh concluded.
As the countdown to Brown’s retirement begins, his legacy of service and dedication to both Entergy and the broader community will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact for years to come.
