Boeing and Icelease Strengthen Partnership with Freighter Agreement

Boeing and Icelease Strengthen Partnership with Freighter Agreement

In an exciting development for the aviation and cargo transport sector, Boeing and Icelease have announced a significant agreement that includes the conversion of one 767-300 aircraft into a Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF), along with options for two additional freighters. This partnership not only reinforces the long-standing relationship between the two companies, but it also represents Icelease's strategic growth in the air freight industry.

A Game Changer for Icelease

Scheduled for induction in the first quarter of 2027, the first converted aircraft is expected to enhance Icelease's growing portfolio of cargo aircraft. The delivery of the converted freighter is anticipated in the second quarter of 2027. Boeing will manage the conversion process at the specialized airframe MRO facilities operated by ST Engineering located in Singapore. This collaboration demonstrates both companies' commitment to meeting the increasing demand for air cargo transportation worldwide.

Sigthor Einarsson, the Managing Partner at Icelease, highlighted the importance of this agreement, stating, "This agreement with Boeing to convert up to three Boeing 767 aircraft marks an important milestone for both Icelease and its Dublin-based sister company IAT Leasing. The history between Icelease and Boeing spans over 20 years, encompassing numerous aircraft deliveries and cargo conversions."

A Proven Performer in Cargo Transport

The Boeing 767-300BCF is recognized as the most efficient medium widebody converted freighter in the market, capable of carrying a payload of 57 tonnes over a range of 3,300 nautical miles. Lindsey Douglas, Vice President of Cabin, Modifications, Maintenance, and Digital Services at Boeing, expressed confidence in the aircraft's performance: "The 767-300BCF is a proven performer in the cargo industry, and we are confident it will continue to deliver value for many years to come."

This latest contract reinforces Icelease's status as a key partner in Boeing's efforts to meet global cargo demand. Icelease's immediate goal is to incorporate the newly converted freighters into its managed cargo aircraft portfolio, which already includes several Boeing 737-800BCF models leased to various customers globally. With a solid history of partnerships, Icelease is prepared to leverage this agreement to expand its operations and services further.

A Look at Icelease’s Journey

Established over 21 years ago, Icelease has built extensive expertise in aircraft acquisition, leasing, and operations while fostering strong relationships within the commercial aviation sector. With a shared ownership structure alongside IAT Leasing, the company has developed a robust portfolio of narrow and wide-body passenger and cargo aircraft. Since its inception in late 2023, IAT Leasing has gained ground in the market, amassing about 40 aircraft in its fleet through partnerships with four different equity stakeholders.

As global air cargo traffic is projected to double over the next two decades, Icelease is well-positioned to benefit from this expansion. The company's agile approach to aircraft leasing and operation, combined with robust relationships with leading aircraft manufacturers like Boeing, ensures they are ahead of the curve in meeting evolving market demands.

The signing ceremony on October 22, 2026, during the Cargo Facts Symposium highlighted the collaborative spirit of both organizations, marking yet another step forward in their partnership and in their shared vision for the future of air cargo transport.

In summary, the agreement between Boeing and Icelease is not just about the immediate conversion of aircraft but is part of a larger strategy aimed at enhancing efficiency and capacity in the air freight sector. As demand for cargo transport continues to rise, this partnership is sure to play a significant role in shaping the future of global logistics.
