Colgate Partners with Hispanic Heritage Foundation for Youth Scholarship Program

Colgate and the Future of Changemakers

Colgate, a brand synonymous with household care, has been championing the next generation of leaders through its annual scholarship program, Haz La U, for the past 17 years. This initiative is in partnership with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF), which is currently accepting applications for 2026-2027. The program will distribute a total of $100,000 in scholarships to high school seniors who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership abilities, and a dedication to community service.

The application window for this prestigious program opened on September 30, 2025, and will close on November 2, 2025. Within this period, students have the opportunity to compete for one of the 31 scholarships available, which include Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards, each valuing $4,000, $3,000, and $2,000 respectively. Additionally, a national winner will receive an extra $10,000 scholarship.

This year, Colgate proudly highlights Mia Romero, a recipient of the 2024 scholarship. Mia’s journey is emblematic of the Haz La U ethos, which is designed to inspire future applicants. Recognized for her unwavering resilience, Mia actively supports her community by helping Latina students locate financial resources for college, serving as a volunteer at her local hospital, and co-chairing The TOgether Project. This organization focuses on providing free orthopedic and pediatric dental care to disadvantaged children. Mia's passion for nursing is deeply rooted in her family's experiences, particularly her grandfather's struggles with language barriers in accessing healthcare. As she pursues her nursing degree at the University of St. Thomas, Mia reflects on her journey, stating, "Receiving the Colgate Haz La U scholarship has been invaluable in my studies. I am committed to ensuring that every patient, especially those facing language barriers, receives compassionate care that they deserve. This support is incredibly motivating and pushes me to continue my journey."

Kevin-Jordan Deen, the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Colgate Oral Care North America, emphasizes the company's belief in nurturing resilient youth leaders who positively impact their communities. He noted, "Through Haz La U, Colgate honors individuals like Mia Romero, who are transforming their challenges into advocacy and dedicating their lives to aiding others. Together, we are reimagining healthier futures for everyone."

Colgate's longstanding partnership with the HHF continues to empower aspiring leaders. Antonio Tijerino, HHF's President and CEO, reiterated the program's significant influence over the years, having aided 497 high school seniors with an impressive total of over $1.25 million in funding since its inception in 2009. This year’s initiative showcases 10 Gold, 10 Silver, and 10 Bronze scholarships, reaffirming Colgate’s commitment to enhancing educational pathways for students.
