The roots of Michter's Distillery trace back to 1753 when John Shenk, a Swiss Mennonite farmer, founded Shenk's Distillery in Pennsylvania. Over the years, the distillery has gone through transformations, being rebranded multiple times, ultimately becoming Michter's in the mid-20th century.
