Terawatt Infrastructure Expands EV Charging Network in California
On April 17, 2025, in a significant move towards sustainable transportation, Terawatt Infrastructure announced that its medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicle (EV) charging hub in Rancho Dominguez, California is now operational. This facility is positioned just 12 miles away from the bustling ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, making it an ideal location to support electric trucking fleets that operate in and out of America's largest container ports.
The new site is equipped to accommodate multiple fleets, featuring 20 advanced pull-through and bobtail DC fast charging stations and boasting an impressive capacity of 7 megawatts. This allows for charging up to 125 trucks daily, ensuring a reliable, ultra-fast charging solution for drayage, local, and regional trucking companies. The strategic reservation system implemented by Terawatt means that fleets can reserve their charging slots with ease, eliminating complications associated with managing their own depots.
Among the first clients to use this facility are well-known companies like Dreaded Trucking, Hight Logistics, PepsiCo, Quick Container Drayage, Southern Counties Express, Tradelink Transport, and WestCoast Trucking Warehousing. This underscores the growing demand for sustainable and efficient charging solutions in the logistics and transportation sectors.
"The launch of our Rancho Dominguez site demonstrates an increase in collaborative efforts among shippers, enterprises, carriers, and charging infrastructure providers to foster sustainable technologies in logistics, particularly within medium- and heavy-duty sectors," commented Neha Palmer, CEO and Co-founder of Terawatt. She expressed optimism about future developments, including their upcoming site in Rialto, California, scheduled to open in June. This addition is expected to facilitate the development of 'electric lanes' linking the ports to the Inland Empire, further enhancing the efficiency of electric fleet usage.
Terawatt's significant advancements in the past 18 months include the operation of smaller footprint EV charging sites for a diverse range of vehicles such as electric vans, box trucks, day cabs, and school buses. The company's strategic partnerships have also led to the establishment of the I-10 Consortium, aimed at conducting pilot operations for heavy-duty EVs along the I-10 electric corridor.
Terawatt Infrastructure is focused on transforming charging costs from a burden into a manageable operating expense, while ensuring convenience and reliability for freight carriers. By owning, developing, operating, and maintaining charging sites, Terawatt is positioning itself as a key player in the commercial EV transportation landscape in the U.S., paving the way for greener and more efficient logistics operations.
