Institute for Policy Solutions Unveils Campaign to Address U.S. Health Inequities

Institute for Policy Solutions to Launch Groundbreaking Campaign

On December 17, 2025, the Institute for Policy Solutions (IPS) at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing will unveil a transformative new initiative called Bridging Our Divide: Eliminating Health Inequities for a Healthier Nation. This campaign is designed to tackle the systemic and structural inequities that currently undermine the health of communities across the United States.

An Impetus for Change

The launch event, which will take place in Washington, D.C. and will be accessible both in-person and online, promises to be a significant occasion for stakeholders across various fields, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, community advocates, and the general public. The highlight of the event will be the release of the inaugural IPS National Health Inequities Survey, a pioneering project that seeks to measure how diverse populations in the U.S. experience and perceive health inequities.

Moderated by Vincent Guilamo-Ramos, PhD, RN, FAAN, the Executive Director of IPS, the event will feature insights from a distinguished panel of experts. Participants include Sylvia Trent-Adams, PhD, RN, FAAN, the President and CEO of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and Steven Woolf, MD, MPH, a prominent figure in the study of social determinants of health. They will delve into the survey results and discuss actionable steps to rectify the persistent health disparities that afflict many Americans.

Amplifying Voices for Action

The IPS campaign is a clarion call for collaborative efforts to combat health inequities through collective action. The campaign has several key objectives:
1. Amplifying Voices: It aims to elevate population-level perspectives on health inequities using data collected from the 2025 IPS National Health Inequities Survey, thereby highlighting the lived experiences of those affected.
2. Evidence-Based Solutions: The campaign emphasizes identifying and advancing actionable strategies that can effectively eliminate health inequities.
3. Consensus Building: Creating a cooperative environment is crucial to ensure optimal health for all people residing in the U.S.
4. Nursing Leadership: The campaign will also showcase the essential role nurses play in advocating for, designing, and delivering effective solutions to end health inequities.

A Broken Health System

Dr. Ramos asserts, “The IPS Bridging Our Divide campaign is about bringing together engaged voices from across our nation to advance collective action on nurse-driven, science-based solutions to end health inequities and build a healthier nation for all.” According to the campaign, addressing these inequalities is the most promising avenue for rectifying the shortcomings of the current U.S. health system.

Looking Ahead

The campaign launch offers an exciting opportunity for those dedicated to improving health outcomes in the United States. The IPS encourages all interested parties to participate, emphasizing that the gathering is vital for anyone committed to advocating for better health policies that benefit all citizens.
