Collaboration Between WEF and WEAT for 2025 Stormwater Conference in Houston, Texas

A Groundbreaking Conference for Water Management

The Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the Water Environment Association of Texas (WEAT) are set to host the 2025 Collection Systems & Stormwater Conference in Houston, Texas, from July 15 to 18. This inaugural partnership promises to blend WEF's global expertise with WEAT's regional experience, aiming to address the urgent challenges surrounding collection systems and stormwater management.

A Collaborative Agenda

The conference, themed "One Water, One Future Building Resilience from the Bayou Up!", leverages Houston's impressive bayou network and innovative flood management strategies. With climate change causing more intense weather events, this conference will explore sustainable infrastructure solutions and innovations necessary for adapting to these changes.

John Ikeda, WEF's Chief Mission Officer, expressed enthusiasm about this collaboration, stating, "This partnership will draw on the best of both of our organizations to deliver a world-class event experience for attendees."

Focus on Resilience and Adaptability

Sessions will emphasize innovations that prioritize resilience and sustainability. Topics will include managing urban flooding, addressing stormwater runoff, and the challenges of aging infrastructure. Participants will include utility and water professionals, consultants, technology experts, academics, and regulators, all contributing to discussions on forward-thinking solutions for long-term infrastructure integrity.

Julie Nahrgang, Executive Director of WEAT, highlighted Texas's complex clean water challenges while also pointing out the boundless opportunities that exist. “You may have heard it’s always bigger in Texas. We’re excited for those at WEF/WEAT CSSW 2025 to understand this first-hand!” she said, emphasizing the state's unique position in water management.

Call for Abstracts

The conference is currently inviting experts to submit abstracts for presentations, deadlines being on January 27, 2025. Interested professionals are encouraged to submit their proposals on the WEF's website www.wef.org/CollectionsStormwater.
