Discovering Hokkaido's Seafood Delights: A Culinary Experience

Experience Hokkaido's Culinary Treasures

On January 30, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the Palsystem Yamanashi Nagano cooperative is set to host a delightful cooking class titled "The Mother of the Seas Cooking Class" at the Kai Center, located in Kai City, Yamanashi Prefecture. This event celebrates the rich marine bounty of Hokkaido, bringing together local producers and enthusiasts to explore the flavors of the sea.

In collaboration with the Notsuke Fisheries Cooperative, which has been supplying high-quality seafood from Hokkaido, participants will be treated to hands-on cooking experiences that emphasize the region’s culinary heritage. This annual event is a highly anticipated opportunity for culinary enthusiasts to indulge in the freshest seafood, such as Hokkaido scallops and seasonal fall salmon.

Savoring the Best of Hokkaido

The cooking class will showcase a variety of dishes crafted from seafood directly sourced from Hokkaido. Attendees will savor an array of seven carefully prepared dishes, including traditional favorites like "Autumn Salmon with Miso," "Salmon Roe Mini Bowl," and crispy "Fried Scallops." A standout feature of the event is the chance to taste scallops both fresh and frozen, allowing participants to appreciate the unique flavors and textures that result from the Notsuke Fisheries’ processing techniques.

The event will be led by the dedicated women from the Notsuke Fisheries' female division, affectionately known as "Mothers of the Sea." They will share their culinary insights and stories about local food culture, enriching the participants' understanding of the dishes they prepare. The cooperation between Palsystem and Notsuke Fisheries was established in 2000, focusing on sustainable fishing practices that support environmental conservation.
