Giti Tire's Record-Breaking Journey with the VW ID.Buzz

In an exhilarating venture marked by innovation and determination, Giti Tire has successfully enabled renowned adventurer Rainer Zietlow to establish a new world record while driving the VW ID.Buzz. Equipped with Giti's state-of-the-art GitiSynergyH2 tires, Zietlow's journey covered an astonishing 99,800 kilometers and spanned across 92 countries over 16 months.

The Expedition Begins

The monumental expedition commenced on July 1, 2025, from Hannover, Germany, with a mission to showcase the reliability and safety of Giti's advanced tire technology in real-world driving conditions. Zietlow, a seasoned globetrotter recognized for his remarkable driving accomplishments, embraced the challenge set forth by Giti Tire in partnership with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV).

As the journey progressed, the need for safety and optimal performance remained at the forefront of Giti Tire's strategy. The company provided Zietlow with a robust support network globally, ensuring that each leg of the trip was both logistically sound and well-planned.

Tire Technology in Action

Throughout the journey, Zietlow utilized two sets of GitiSynergyH2 tires, which were changed at the halfway point to maintain performance standards. The tires, featuring a unique tread compound, were designed to minimize rolling resistance while ensuring strong performance under both wet and dry conditions. After inspection, it was revealed that over 50% of the tire tread depth remained, a testament to their durability.

The VW ID.Buzz was fitted with tires sized 235/60 R18 at the front and 255/55 R18 on the rear axle, per the Original Equipment specifications agreed upon with VWCV starting in September 2023. During the expedition, Zietlow experienced a seamless driving experience, with the GitiSynergyH2 allowing for an impressive range of around 400 kilometers between charges. He noted, “Driving through intense rain, especially in Southeast Asia, there was no aquaplaning. This was all achieved with a top-tier tire.”

Concluding the Journey

The world-record journey culminated at the IAA Transportation event in Hannover on September 14, 2026, where Zietlow was officially recognized for his incredible achievement. The presentation of the Guinness World Records certificate not only celebrated the remarkable distance covered but also highlighted the viability and performance of electric vehicles in today's automotive landscape.

Chris Bloor, Executive Director at Giti Tire, expressed satisfaction with the results. He remarked, “We aimed to demonstrate our advanced EV tire technology under real-world conditions while affirming our commitment to sustainability and safety.” The successful completion of the world tour proved that the future of electric vehicles is promising and that Giti tires can indeed make a difference.

Other Milestones

In addition to this remarkable global tour, Giti Tire also marked another milestone when its YANGWANG U9 Xtreme (U9X) achieved a top speed of 496.22 km/h on GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro tires. This feat solidified Giti Tire's reputation as a leader in tire technology, as the U9X became the fastest production car in the world.
