IREX Welcomes Aleksander Dardeli as New President and CEO
On September 1, 2025, Aleksander (Aleks) Dardeli officially took on the role of President and CEO of IREX, an organization dedicated to transforming communities through education and global outreach. Dardeli's return to IREX brings a renewed vision and strategic agility designed to navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing landscape.
Dardeli is not new to IREX; he previously served as Executive Vice President, where he was instrumental in expanding the organization’s global footprint and fostering innovation. His leadership had a significant impact on enhancing management systems and overseeing the notable acquisition of Development Gateway, which aligns with IREX’s mission.
Following his tenure at IREX, Dardeli took on the role of Chief Operating Officer at Save the Children, where he led major organizational strategies and performance initiatives. His experience at Save the Children allowed him to hone skills crucial for his new position, including partnership development and navigating organizational complexities.
David A. Gross, the Chairman of the Board, expressed enthusiasm about Dardeli's return, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Aleks back to IREX. His experience and insights are perfectly suited to guide our organization through this evolving landscape. He understands the importance of building strong partnerships and tackling complex challenges.”
Furthermore, Kate Thompson, the interim CEO, noted that Dardeli's presence revitalizes the organization, emphasizing the robust programs and talented professionals already part of IREX. “We look forward to this next chapter under his leadership,” she remarked.
Dardeli’s professional background is extensive, having accumulated over 25 years in the international development sector. He has held positions of increasing responsibility across various organizations, including IBI International and DynCorp International. His work focuses primarily on education, public sector strengthening, and leadership development in emerging economies and post-conflict situations.
One of his notable achievements includes leading a significant initiative in Kosovo aimed at preparing government institutions for independence. His dedication to international service has not only shaped educational reforms but has also supported leadership development globally.
A Fulbright scholar, Dardeli graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tirana. He furthered his education with a Master’s from Columbia University and obtained his doctorate in law from The Catholic University of America.
Upon stepping into his new role, Dardeli shared, “IREX has a rich legacy in transforming educational systems, bringing people together to solve problems, and supporting leaders across sectors. I am excited to collaborate with our staff, board, and supporters worldwide to expand opportunities, create innovative solutions, and ultimately achieve sustainable results for America and the communities we serve.”
