Former Rakuten Vice President Yoshifumi Hirai Shares Insights at CEO Salon Event

Event Report: Insights from Yoshifumi Hirai at Salon de CEO

On August 19, 2026, the 37th edition of the CEO Salon, hosted by DYM Corporation, took place in Shinagawa, Tokyo. DYM, known for its diverse business activities in web services, human resources, mergers and acquisitions, and overseas medical services, welcomed as their guest speaker Yoshifumi Hirai. Hirai is a prominent figure in the IT industry, having served as Vice President of Rakuten and currently as COO of RevComm, a company focused on voice AI analysis. Here, he has successfully raised approximately 3.4 billion yen in Series B funding.

During his keynote address, Hirai shared valuable insights drawn from his extensive career. His talk focused primarily on two pivotal elements for business leaders: 1) the significance of cultivating a positive organizational culture, and 2) understanding the essence of customer value.

Hirai emphasized the critical need for a cohesive management system centered around customer value. He referenced his achievement of winning the Japan Quality Award in two different companies as evidence of the importance of consistency in management. He articulated that fostering a robust corporate culture goes beyond merely preserving and sharing it; it requires employees to resonate and harmonize with one another.

Delving deeper into customer satisfaction, Hirai discussed the Japanese philosophy that merely meeting customer needs is insufficient. To establish a company's true value, businesses must aim to evoke profound emotions of excitement, awe, and gratitude in their customers. Such a perspective is essential for long-term growth and sustainability.

Adding depth to his presentation, Hirai quoted Peter Drucker’s concept that “an organization is like an orchestra.” He highlighted the necessity of having team members with varied roles work together in harmony. He also pointed to the Japanese tradition of using personal chopsticks as an example of how personalization can offer insights for global expansion.

He concluded with a call to action for leaders: more than precision, what’s needed is the power of belief—‘the ability to push forward with conviction’—that is essential for effective management. This strong message resonated with the participating executives, providing them with critical insights and encouragement.

The latter part of the event featured lively discussions among business leaders in attendance. These conversations revolved around organizational reform and global expansion, allowing attendees to draw lessons from one another's experiences and deepen their understanding of effective leadership strategies.
