On September 22, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM, Palsystem Tokyo will host a grape harvesting experience at the Misaka Delicious Foods Association in Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture. This unique event is a partnership with local producers, led by Masahiko Amemiya, and is aimed at families from about 10 households who will deepen their understanding of sustainable farming methods that minimize the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.

Participants will enter a vineyard ripe with Shine Muscat grapes, learning how to identify the perfect bunches for harvesting. Under the guidance of experienced farmers, attendees, including young children, will be able to pick these grapes directly from the vine, extending their hands high to gather these sun-ripened treats. The sweetness of freshly picked Shine Muscat is a delightful experience!

The Misaka Delicious Foods Association has committed to reducing pesticide use to less than half of the local standard, successfully growing grapes while minimizing chemicals. Grapes are particularly sensitive to disease, making it challenging to cultivate them with reduced pesticide reliance. In the face of climate change and adverse weather conditions impacting agriculture, the association continues to practice fruit cultivation that respects both the consumers and the surrounding natural environment.

From spring, when buds appear, each grape bunch is meticulously nurtured. Farmers ensure that the plants receive adequate nutrition by skillfully trimming the tips of new growth so that energy is efficiently directed towards fruit development. Just before harvest, the grapes are left on the vine to ripen fully, enhancing their sweetness—an important aspect of the selection process to ensure top-quality produce.
