Purple Innovation Reveals Notable Financial Performance and Future Plans for 2027

Purple Innovation, Inc. has recently published its financial results for the third quarter of 2026. With headquarters in Lehi, Utah, this innovative comfort company is well-known for its promise of 'less pain, better sleep' through its distinctive GelFlex Grid mattress technology. As of September 30, 2026, Purple has shared that it has produced a positive operating cash flow for three consecutive quarters, despite navigating a challenging landscape in the mattress market. The company's CEO, Rob DeMartini, noted that performance during this period was somewhat mixed. He highlighted the improvement in e-commerce sales on the official Purple website and mentioned the opening of two new showrooms, raising their store count to 57. While e-commerce showed resilience, wholesale revenue fell short of expectations, prompting leaders to strategize enhancements in sales coverage and product positioning. In the financial summary, Purple Innovation revealed third-quarter revenue of $96.5 million, down 18.7% from $118.8 million in the same quarter last year. This decline primarily stemmed from reduced wholesale revenue and lower showroom and online sales. The direct-to-consumer segment, which includes e-commerce and showroom sales, generated $60.9 million compared to $67.2 million in the previous year. The e-commerce sales specifically experienced a dip from $45.3 million to $42.4 million, while showroom sales also saw a decline from $22.0 million to $18.5 million. Additionally, wholesale revenue dropped significantly, from $51.5 million to $35.6 million. Approximately $4.0 million of this reduction was attributed to revised payments to customers and a manufacturing partner linked to one of those customers. Regarding gross margins, there was a noted decrease to 43.4%, declining by 410 basis points from the previous year due to inventory adjustments and production costs. Operating expenses also dropped to $51.7 million, a decrease of 24.7%, largely due to cuts in restructuring costs and marketing spend. The net loss for the third quarter was reported at $1.4 million, in comparison to a loss of $11.7 million from the year prior. Adjusted EBITDA showed a loss of $0.5 million, contrasting with a positive $0.2 million from the prior year. Looking forward, Purple Innovation maintains its revenue forecast at $420 million to $440 million for 2026, bolstered by a strategic marketing campaign, seasonal direct-to-consumer momentum, and new product introductions. However, the company anticipates ongoing pressures in wholesale sales. Furthermore, a notable product refresh is planned for early 2027, which is projected to reform the product line significantly, with new Essentials and Hybrid collections expected to comprise nearly 90% of mattress unit volume. This upcoming refresh comes with a strong belief that it will aid in stabilizing and improving performance in the forthcoming financial periods. As a part of their commitment to innovation and comfort, Purple continues to shape the landscape of sleeping products, hoping to achieve not only a sustainable business model but also to enhance the quality of sleep for customers everywhere. In addition, Purple Innovation intends to host a conference call on November 4, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time to further discuss their financial results, inviting stakeholders and analysts to actively participate. This call will also be iteratively made available on their investor relations website. Overall, although the recent quarter presented various challenges, Purple Innovation is gearing up for substantial changes that they believe will lead to improved metrics moving forward, reaffirming their commitment to enhancing sleep quality through innovative product offerings.
