Rawlings Gold Glove Award Joins Athletes Unlimited Softball League Recognition

Expansion of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award

The Rawlings® Gold Glove Award, an emblem of defensive excellence in baseball, is set to make its debut in the world of professional softball. Starting with the 2026 season, this esteemed accolade will honor outstanding athletes from the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL).

In a move that reflects Rawlings' commitment to promoting the evolution of sports, the announcement comes as the league continues to establish its credentials in professional athletics. The Gold Glove Award has a rich history dating back to 1957, celebrating exceptional defensive players in Major League Baseball (MLB). With the inclusion of collegiate and high school athletes in 2007, and collegiate softball players in 2022, this award has broadened its scope significantly over the years.

Rawlings has been pivotal in the realm of baseball and has now taken an important step by partnering with the AUSL, marking the second instance the award will be presented in the realm of professional softball. The first instance occurred between 2016 and 2019 with the now-defunct National Pro Fastpitch League.

"At Rawlings, we’ve always been dedicated to supporting athletes and leagues that drive the game forward, and introducing the Gold Glove Award to AUSL is a significant milestone in that mission," stated Mike Thompson, Rawlings' Chief Marketing Officer. This collaboration aims to shine a light on the remarkable talent showcased in women’s professional softball and to foster the sport’s growth further.

The selection process for the Gold Glove Award will mirror that of MLB: coaches and managers from AUSL will cast their votes for the best defensive player, excluding those from their own teams. The accolade will be announced post the 2026 season, around late July, marking a highly anticipated moment for the league and its athletes.

AUSL Commissioner Kim Ng emphasized the value of this partnership, stating, "The Rawlings Gold Glove Award signifies the pinnacle of defensive excellence in the sport. By recognizing AUSL athletes, we’re taking a vital step towards honoring their dedication and exceptional performances." This association with Rawlings highlights the prestigious legacy the brand has in diamond sports and enhances the level of recognition that AUSL players will receive.

In May, it was previously announced that Rawlings and Easton would serve as the official providers of bats, gloves, and bases for the AUSL. The leagues' commitment to excellence in equipment further supports their ambition to raise the standard within the sport. Moreover, top AUSL athletes, including Tiare Jennings, Jayda Coleman, Rachel Garcia, and Maya Brady, are already capturing attention through individual endorsement deals.
