Secure Identity Alliance Showcases OSIA Birth Registration Demo at TRUSTECH Paris

Secure Identity Alliance Unveils OSIA Live Interoperability Demo at TRUSTECH Paris

The Secure Identity Alliance (SIA) is excited to announce its groundbreaking OSIA Live Interoperability Demo, set to take place at TRUSTECH Paris from December 1 to 3, 2026. This inaugural event will demonstrate a complete birth registration process using the OSIA standard (ITU-T Recommendation X.1281) to highlight the advantages of interoperable identity management systems.

What to Expect

Throughout the event, six prominent identity technology providers, namely DIGITECH, iDAKTO, IN Groupe, Mühlbauer, Thales, and X Infotech, will collaboratively showcase their solutions. Each day will feature a different lineup of vendors taking part in this innovative demonstration to illustrate how their systems can seamlessly connect through the OSIA protocol.

The OSIA Demo will embark on the journey of registering a birth, starting from verifying the identity of the parents to printing a birth certificate on-site. This new approach aims to underline the necessity of a secure and modern identity management framework that goes beyond traditional paper documents, which are often susceptible to forgery and challenging to replace when lost.

The Role of Technology in Identity Management

As the first official identity document, a birth certificate lays the foundation for all subsequent credentials, including national IDs, passports, and driver's licenses. However, many countries still rely on outdated processes that involve paper documentation. The integration of modern solutions can streamline various components, such as enrollment procedures, biometric data processing, unique identification number generation, and credential management systems, all while linking to civil and population registries.

The demonstration will invite participants to assume the role of a child whose birth is being registered. Parents' identities will first be captured and confirmed, followed by details and an image of the participants as they go through the registration process. Upon successful verification, each participant will be provided with a unique identification number (UIN) and issued a birth certificate on the spot. This certificate will feature their data and a digital seal (QR code) for verification.

Commitment to Privacy and Data Security

SIA prioritizes privacy throughout this demo. While the visitors’ faces will be displayed on screen for processing, they will only be stored temporarily for the purpose of printing birth certificates during the event. There is no collection of fingerprints, and all the data will be destroyed at the end of each day to ensure strict adherence to privacy standards.

Debora Comparin, Chair of the OSIA Initiative, remarked, "Interoperability has often been discussed as a future promise. At TRUSTECH, however, this becomes a reality as governments witness a seamless process from a child's first identity record to a universally accepted credential. This collective effort from six independent firms illustrates how OSIA empowers entities to choose optimal components from various suppliers without being locked into a single vendor."

Event Details

The OSIA Live Demo will be accessible at the TRUSTECH Paris venue (Paris Expo Porte de Versailles) in the OSIA Live Demo Area, positioned in Alley D between the Innovation Stage and the ID Conference Room. Visitors are encouraged to participate throughout show hours, with a detailed presentation scheduled for Wednesday, December 2nd, at 12:00 PM in the ID Conference Room.
